Ultralight Fishing Anyone?

can anyone say anything about the reels as far as brands go?

i know the penn is great , but it is kinda big compared to the others. rapala lures are great , and a different model reel got a pretty decent review , but ive nver used one.

My uncle used to have one of these ultralights, I was thinking "how the heck do you fish off of that?". lol

As a metter of fact he used to mess with that thing in the Bahamas, he had a Bertram 42 he kept in Miami and he'd take the family to the Bahamas and bring the ultralight.

I'm actually 305 born and raised myself.

nice. teh 305 sucks. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

but its always good to know that if the engine ever ****ed up , you could always glide safly down to land.

Yeah, I would not want to raise my family there, I could move there tomorrow and keep my job, but hell no.

so far im stuck between the penn cv500 and the abu garcia ult1000.

the AG has 6 bearings instead of penns 4. same line capacity. the penn is 2 oz's lighter.

anyone speak on their overall quality?

Read up on some reviews, see what is better. Look at some local shops and see if you can have a look at the rod in person.

I've never used either, but that should help. I've only really used Shimano, and every reel I've had has been great till I tried to clean it and forgot how to put it back together.

ive been trying to find reviews on both , but i didnt come up with anything really.

the reviews on both basspro and cabelas are of that line. ie - the 300 series , or captiva series , not the specific model. though there is some on there , none are in depth.

this one has pretty solid reviews -

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0023112118275a&navCount=2&podId=0023112&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20333&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20333

and the AG -

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0036079120604a&navCount=2&podId=0036079&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20333&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20333

im leaning towards these rather than the penn , since the penn has a plastic drag adjuster (or whatever its called). also , from what im reading , it looks like recent abu garcias are made overseas , and some people mentioned lesser quality.

but untill something in my FS thread moves, i wont be able to snag one up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

The ones you linked are decent. How much are you wanting to spend?

My setups are all these.

Redbone Rods

Paired with Shimano Sahara 2500's

Sahara

The Redbone rods can be found at Sports Authority for around $90-$140, and the best part about them is you can break them on purpose and it's still warrentied. Just send the broken rod to the company, don't even need to call them, and they send you a brand new one of the same kind within a week/week and a half.

The Saharas can be found anywhere from $60-$80, and they're great reels for the money. I also like the Stradic's, but they're around $250

The whole thing?
