ultimate NOOB question

is 1/0 wire and 0 gauge wire the same thing?

what about 2/0 and 2 gauge?

4/0 and 4 gauge?

I always thought they were but on a welding supply site, it cost more per foot for 4/0 than it does for 1/0..?

someone please explain.

4/0 is bigger. think of it like 0000. 4 zeros

correct, and that 2/0 or 4/0 is HUGE you could beat the shit outta someone with a 1 foot section of it and at least break a nose or knock some teeth out, I wouldnt see it being practical in a car unless you had straight runs cause it would be so hard to bend.

that's how i used to say it, but an electrician corrected me and told me it's

"one ott"

and "two ott"

You can actually get 4/0 these days that's as flexible as alot of 1/0. I believe it was a thread here where a guy took pictures of it. He was able to wrap it around his fist and arm.
