Ok, after multiple threads on it, and thinking that i fixed the issue, the whine is back. I redid the headunit ground, and the distribution block ground, which eliminated the decently loud alt whine from the rear left speaker. Then I went on vacation for a week and half, and now the rear right speaker has whine. it isnt as strong as the left used to be, but it is pretty consistent. I redid the amp/dist block ground, and sanded the chassis until it was bare at the contact point. it seemed to be fine, until i drove for 5 minutes, then the right rear speaker started to whine again. Why the hell would the whining speaker change from left to right after getting a better ground? could it be the amp? I really don't get it bc the grounds seem good, but maybe they can somehow be better?

i sorta had a problem like that, the right rear speaker had engine noise, and when you faded to the back, you still heard the fronts alittle.

traced it to either the wires,or the point where they connect on the speaker, were touching metal, just alittle,or the connection turned and was touching the basket.

alt is fine. i dont get why the left rear alt whine disappeared and the right rear appeared (maybe it was drowned out by the lefts?). either way i dont really know what else to work on/check.

Simple system tracing:

1) Pull the rca out of the amp is the noise still there? Yes/No.

If Yes, it's the amp.

4) If No, plug the RCA in from the amp to the HU but leave it unplugged at the HU end, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If yes it's that RCA.

5) If no, plug the RCA into the HU is the noise back? Yes/No.

If Yes, it's the HU.

6) If no, something wierd happend and the problem is solved.

Advanced system tracing:Assuming a single processor

1) Pull the rca out of the amp is the noise still there? Yes/No.

If Yes, it's the amp.

2) If No, plug the RCA from the processor to the amp into the amp but leave it unplugged at the processor end, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If yes, it's that RCA.

3) If No unplug the RCA from the HU to the processor and plug in the RCA from the processor to the amp, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If Yes it's the processor.

4) If No, plug the RCA in from the processor to the HU but leave it unplugged at the HU end, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If yes it's that RCA.

5) If no, plug the RCA into the HU is the noise back? Yes/No.

If Yes, it's the HU.

6) If no, something wierd happend and the problem is solved.

Advanced system tracing 2:Assuming a multiple processors

1) Pull the rca out of the amp is the noise still there? Yes/No.

If Yes, it's the amp.

2) If No, plug the RCA from the processor1 to the amp into the amp but leave it unplugged at the processor1 end, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If yes, it's that RCA.

3) If No unplug the RCA from the processor2 to the processor1 and plug in the RCA from the processor1 to the amp, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If Yes it's processor1.

4) If No, plug the RCA from processor1 to processor 2 into processor1 but leave it unplugged at the processor2 end, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If yes, it's that RCA.

5) If No unplug the RCA from the HU to the processor2 and plug in the RCA from processor2 to the processor1, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If Yes it's the processor2.

6) If No, plug the RCA in from the processor2 to the HU but leave it unplugged at the HU end, is the noise back? Yes/No.

If yes it's that RCA.

7) If no, plug the RCA into the HU is the noise back? Yes/No.

If Yes, it's the HU.

8) If no, something wierd happend and the problem is solved.

If you have more than 2 processors in the chain then repeat steps 4-5 incrementing the processor number each time for each processor in the chain

Hope that helps some people.

what i tried before, when i had the issue of the rear left speaker whining is i swapped the front and rear rca's. what happened was the front left speaker, instead of alt whine would occasionally would just stop playing music and the rear did not whine. that is what made me think it was something to do with the rca's or headunit, but when i redid the ground for the amp, that fixed that problem. i dont know if there was always a whine from the right rear, since it is harder for me to hear it when im driving. the whole movement of whine/problems seems weird to me

If a speaker stops playing music it could be that one of the speaker wires is touching metal or touching the basket on the speaker.

Just follow the steps above and track down the problem

yea, but that is when i swap the rca's. normally the fronts are fine. if i reverse the rca's then that happens. that is why it confuses the hell out of me. one setup its whine, the other it cuts out

ok after i tried a couple of things, tightening things down yet again, turning down the gains a little (from what i remember, some suggestions for getting rid of whine is to turn down the gains). So far for 3 days, there has been no whine, yay. but does anyone have an explanation for why turning down the gain (if that is what fixed it), gets rid of whine?
