Sometimes I'm ashamed of the people who own the same car as me...

The alternator charges the battery, the battery charges the capacitors. The alternator charge wire goes straight to the battery, the capacitors are wired to the battery. It is not possible for the capacitors to "steal" the charge from the battery as the easiest path to ground is the battery. To get to the capacitors the charge must travel through a few feet of extra wiring, which has additional resistance. Capacitors act as a buffer between the battery and the amps when the electrical load is high. If you have a high powered system without capacitors then it is not wired correctly. I BUILT systems that won sound competitions, I know exactly what I am talking about.

lmao.

i remember the days i would have those discussions with idiots that wanted to try to convince me caps provide no strain on the electrical system. I'm sorry but if you already have a struggling electrical system, adding another thing that requires power will not help anything long term

Finally someone knows what their talking about.

:ugh: Sure....

Capacitors don't choose when they discharge. If they have a charge, and the amp decides to draw some current, it draws from the capacitor first because it has the lowest resistance. Now, I remind you that a capacitor discharges in milliseconds.
And the amps are only drawing a HEAVY load for miliseconds at a time, as bass is a pulse, the lights dim for longer because it takes time for the alternator an battery to "catch up".
ugh...
