Well in some people's opinion the chief justice of the Supreme Court could probably be the most powerful person in the American government in terms of influencing everyday life. Rehnquist wasn't a racist but he definitely wasn't trying to implement a law that would give someone a break just because of their race. He was a WWII vet and supposedly a stand up guy. Even up to his deathbed he still gave it his all toward his duty. He never even got to enjoy a retirement. Maybe you should show the slightest amount of respect because he deserves more than you should ever get.

Even though Justice John Paul Stevens has the most seniority, and will be serving as active Chief Justice; I'd wager completely that Justice Scalia will be named Chief Justice, and that Judge John Roberts will be named to take the place of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
