TypeR

My friend got a 12" type R, and I was wondering if I built a 3.5Cubic box tuned to 30hz and put about 600-800 watts on it, what it would sound like. Please throw out some recommendations at me about box size, tuning, power, amps, etc. He wants it loud, but wants it to sound good too, I recommended a snailshell to him (what my 9500 is in), but he doesn't have the cash at the moment.

Ok I think we're going with an 801d, but I've searched around for a while and can't find "optima" ported boxes. He's driving an acura TL 3.2 I believe.

Ok cool, I literally know NOTHING about alpine subs, which is why I'll stick with my 9500. So yeah, I'll build a 2.5 cubic foot box tuned to 32-35hz ish this weekend. That's after displacement correct? Also, will an mtx 801d push it enough, about 800 watts rms. I don't want to blow his system but I want to get the most out of it.

yea it will just make sure you adjust the gains properly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif also the mtx801d is sexy amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

yeah i'm running a 1501d on my 9500 and they absolutely love each other. I love that mtx amp lineup, which is why I hopefully can throw another 1501d, 9512, and snailshell in the trunk to get some more bang. We free aired the sub off my 1501d and it actually looked pretty cool

I was thinking, because I added a line driver to minimize distortion (don't use bass boost and have the gain very low on my amp), he has a JVC Exad or something for his HU that has a little built in LCD screen where you can watch movies, I believe the preout voltage is 4.0v rms or 5v rms, will the 801d like that? My 1501d hated my crappy 2.0v rms but loves 7.5v.

Maybe if you weren't on john's nuts you'd try and do some research and build your own SS instead of trying to get people to spen $400 on a box.Just a suggestion.

I wouldn't go with 3.5 for a single 12, 3 max.

No thanks I'll stay on john's nuts, his boxes are better than any other fakeshell you'll ever see/hear. Most the time it's douchebags who have never heard his work who make stupid comments like yours. It's not that I dont' want to do the research, it's that I have respect for the man who thought the idea up and is obviously the best at building that enclosure. It's fun to beat someone that thinks his system is the best thing ever because he runs a JL13W7 on 2 JL 1000/1's and yet everybody around believes my setup is louder when I am running a single 12" 9500 to a 1501d and nobody believes it's one 12" sub in the back until I pop the hood, that little extra satisfaction is well worth the $300.00 on an excellent box better than you could ever build.

For those who are taking this thread somewhat seriously, I'm building this box tomorrow, so would 2.5-3.0 cubes tuned to 32hz be ideal for a type X.
