Two batts

I searched and read that i don't need an isolater (which i thought i did), but if i wanna keep my regular starting batt and hook up a yellow top or something similar in the back how would i wire it and what guage wire would i need?? also are there any comparable batteries to yellow tops that are good for car audio use for cheaper??? BTW I almost always have my car running when i'm playing my system....

I used 0AWG from starting battery pos to a 100A inline fuse. I came from the fuse to the pos side of my Optima in the trunk. Then I grounded my Optima to the frame. Not sure how everyone recommends, but haven't had any trouble as of yet. Isolators, I know, keep one battery from draining the other.

Would the second batt even help since my alt is to small??? Someone told me it wouldn't....I figured since i usually only turn my system way up for like 10 min at a time that it would help during that time and recharge after that...but someone told me it'd be pointless...that true??

You should buy an HO alt and do the big 3. Then get another batt if you really need one. If you use 2 batts, your alt is going to work 2x harder to keep them both charged.

Your system draws its power from the battery/batteries, not the alt. The reason for doing the big 3 is to help the alt charge the battery. If you are going to run it for 10 min or so, a second battery will help...

Better yet, replace the alt AND do the big 3 AND get a second battery. That should end all of the discussion... LOL!!!

^^I don't want to replace my alt, I'm aware that it really is neccessary and is the only source of power, but i am not going to have this car for very long so i don't feel like dropping money into a ho alt when i'm not gonna get much use outta it....so i was trying to find a temp. fix..so would it be better to not add a second battery or what...

Look at it this way...

Say your car is not running. You are drawing all of your power from the battery. Now if you have two, taking for granted you have 2 of the same batteries charged exactly the same, you can listen for twice as long. Or, you would notice voltage dropping 1/2 as slowly.

Now, if you start your car and turn the system off, the inverse happens. Two batteries take twice as long to charge to full capacity as one would.

Now, while running and the system is on, unless you play a single tone, the amps are drawing power intermitatntly with the beat of the music. The voltage regulater will notice a drop in voltage and signal the alt to start adding more current to the battery. If you have 2 batteries, you have more of a power reserve than with only one battery.

So yes, a second battery will help even with a stock alt, just make sure you wire it correctly...

Everyone else, go ahead and blow holes in the above........

That only works if you're moving it foreward while shooting. Kind of like throwing a punch with every shot. Much better accuracy and the extra foreward movement gives the round a little more penatration... Try it next time you're doing a drive-by...
