Two 400RMS subs - how much wattage?

Hello,

I have two 12" Polk MOMO 2124 SVC's rated at 400W RMS and 800MAX each. I am questioning about the amp.

Right now I have a Polk MOMO C500.1 which, according to my understanding, would only be giving each sub about 250watts each when they should be getting almost double that. Correct so far? So I was thinking of trading it in for a Alpine MRP-M850 rated at

Per channel into 4 ohms: 500W x 1 (0.08% THD)

Per channel into 2 ohms: 800W x 1

At 2 ohms, which i should be running?, would be 400 watts to each woofer, thus maximizing sound and performance, correct? Better choice?

Would this work?

Thanks,

Drowsy

But will 250 be substantial given it comes up 150 short of the rms of the subs? I want this shit to pound, but to also be right and worth my time and money.

So it might not even be worth it, I mean I can get the alpine amp for 50 bucks cheaper, but after i have to send the c500.1 back it wouldnt even be worth my time.

I guess I will be keeping the c500.1 after all. Thanks for the help guys, being that I am new to this. I just dont understand how it wont make that much of a difference adding another 150 watts to each sub. System is

Clarion VRX775VD 7in Screen w/ CCA673 iPod Cable

Polk db501's 5"

Audiobahn 3.5's

Polk MOMO C400.4 For the 5s and 3.5s.

2 Polk MOMO 2124 SVC's

Polk MOMO C500.1 for the subs

Doubling the power (from say 250w to 500w) will only yield an ~3db increase in output.

In order to double your output (+10db) you would have to throw 2700w on each sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

OK, I guess I will just keep the C500.1, being that I already have it. I do have a question though -

If 400watts RMS is the max wattage that can be drove into the woofer, what is the 800watts MAX for?
