tweeters suggestions

i'm looking for tweeters for a new front stage, midbass will be handled by a pair of xxx mids, and midrange by a pair of coustic 5.25" midranges, i'd like the tweeters to be able to work a/ around 65-70watts rms @ 4ohm, nothing too expensive, and nothing huge(don't have room for horns)

The Max Fidelity MDFT30neo tweets can be picked up new from Meniscus Audio for around $120 shipped, and they are amazing tweeters. Fit your specifications perfectly as well... From my limited experience they are the best tweeters i've ever heard, and have alot of potential to be very loud, would be able to keep up with the XXX mids well.

Another vote for the LPGs. I have the silks 25NFA and are awesome. I'd recommend it. probably around $80 for the pair or so. Meniscus audio is cheaper than madisound but you gotta call and place an order. 30-35 watts should be plenty for the LPG to sing!

Meniscus is an amazing company to work with, great customer service, my vote goes with them if you choose to order either the LPGs or the Max Fi's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I must agree. They are awesome and as you said great customer service. When i bought my LPGs from them, without me even asking they said that it would be best to cross them at 3khz @ 24db/oct. Im like wow. On top of that they are super fast on shipping. I ordered my LPGs on a thursday got them on saturday. And i just ordered some hinged tweeter mounts last thursday, got them on monday. The only problem with them is that you can't directly order on their website, you have to call and place an order. But hands down the best online audio i've experienced.

LPG's would work for your needs. They are 8ohm, but tweeters don't need much power. And you have your choice between aluminum (26NA) and silk (25NFA): http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?exact_match=yes&product=LP&cart_id=7485316.4037

hey squeaky that dayton tweeter says 15 watts, how would it work with 30 watts? i'm probably gonna get a pair of dayton rs 7" mids and go active and i'm a cheap *** so these tweets look right up my alley. would i be could crossing them over at like 2.5 khz and the mids play between 63 and 2.5 khz.?

30 watts should be fine. just watch gains of course. as for the daytons, of course it all depends on the install but many people who run the rs180s have had breakup at around 2khz or so.

could i drop the tweeter down to 2khz then? would it help if i used a steeper slope?
Of course it would be more flexible to have a steeper slope if you cross the tweeter that low. not quite sure about those tweeters because i've never used them, but hey if they don't work well down there then what you lose 10 bucks? no biggie. But its okay to have a frequency gap. for about a week i had my current mids crossed at 63hz and 2.5khz @ 12db/oct and my tweeters crossed at 3.15khz @ 24db/oct. sounded just great. i'm just experimenting and i have my mids LP @ 3.15khz @ 24db/oct.

hmm, if you could fit a large format tweet, just get the Dayton RS28a. those tweets can play very low. thats of course if you could increase your budget a bit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif . that combo is a match made in heaven.
