Tweeter question.

i have set multiple amps with a dmm it just doesnt make much sense to me that turning the gain knob "up" results in a smaller amount of output, because whenever i raise the gain the voltage always rises
And lowering gain lowers voltage which in turn relates to the power the speaker sees.

Thats his point. He knew the amp was clipping based on an o-scope and the fact that he was blowing speakers with power levels below their rated rms, which you just said is only possible if the amp is clipping, which apparently it was.

Thats funny because you cant blow a speaker by using less power than RMS unless your clipping it.
it was clipping.

i was noticing that my mids at the time were starting to get stinky with less than rated so i had it checked with an o-scope and it was a clipped signal.

moral of the story is i need 4 tweets that will take 100rms. and i prefer silk domes.

And you dont see an issue here? Turning the gain down should never cause a clipping issue unless something else is messed up.

your not understanding the simple fact that when the gain all the way down is only set for a 6v preout and the deck im running has 6.5v preouts that it can cause clipping.

but i got my new tweets. which was the whole point of this thread sooo.

/thread.

that's what i've been trying to explain...

turning the gain knob clockwise increases it, counter clockwise decreases...but when 6v is fully counter clockwise you cant turn it down anymore than that. only way to turn it down would be if the amp accepted a minimum of 8v not 6v
