tweeter protection + active

ok sometime in the near future i plan on going active.. the main reason i havent done it yet is cause i push a decent amount of power to my speakers and im afraid im gonna hurt my tweets...

now i udnerstand how the light bulb method works... (as more power goes through the bulb - it heats up causing more resistance) but take my rainbow crossovers for example.. is the light bulb wired in series or is it more complicated than this...? if it is in series.. couldnt i just use the same type bulb wired before the tweeters in an active setup and accomplish the same thing?

The crossovers are the resistance in the components. Meter the driver itself and I wouldn't try any lower than 4000hz on em. Not real sure. I haven't really tried breaking up a component set to go active.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought on tweeter protection systems, the light bulb began lighting due to a clipped signal being sent to a driver?

Then again, a clipped signal would generate more heat..... now thinking about it i never fully understood the concept of why the light would light up, thus protecting the tweeter...

Can anyone explain?

So the light bulb actually lighting is protecting your tweeters? Its not just a visual to tell you to turn it down.. or its probably both of them combined.

In a properly set up active system, you won't need tweeter protection because you will have gain matched the amp to the power requirements of the tweeter and the crossover freq and slope as well. The tweeter won't ever see more power than it can handle and will never see a clipped signal. If you are planning on going active and don't have those basic concepts down, you're biting off more than you can chew.
