tweeter placement and kickpanel build ideas

Im going to be installing a set of 6.5 compents in the front of my wifes 74 bronco. I want to build kickpanels on the floor as i dont want speakers in the doors if we ever take them off. So, give me some ideas on how to build these either out of fiberglass or mdf or something else. Also, where would be a good place to mount the tweeters to where i dont have to cut nothing up? I dont mind building something for those either.

If I was going to building something like that (simple and sweet) ... I would just go with a 6.5" coaxal down there in the kick and not worry with tweeter placement and call it a day ...

not really.. the pupose of components vs coax is to separate the frequencys with a crossover that usualy has adjustable atenuation. in the kicks may not be optimum placement for soundstage. but it is done fequenly..mine r there in my pick up..... on either this one or diy there is a tutorial on dash pods..just gotta search

Some manufacturers recommend a minimum distance between the tweeter and mid driver, usually if it is over 2 feet you may need an HU with Time Alignment to get the best sound and stage in the front. I agree components will filter the frequencies to get better sound from each driver and will be better than coaxials, if the proper power is given to them.

I like those plastic rings for the components. And that is a very clean top load washing machine, way cleaner than mine.

Now Im thinking of making kickpanels and making a dashboard pod out of fiberglass for the tweeters. They make a pod already for the bronco that put them in the center lower part of the dash but Im guessing they wont sound right there?

No, they have to be separated and on the doors if possible, to get the best image and stereo separation stage, you should post a picture of your door and dash just to get an idea where you can mount them, other member suggested velcro on the pillars for the tweeters, that could work then play with either of axis, I think polk recommends of axxis each one pointing at the other rather than both pointing at each passenger or the center between the 2 sitting in front. I would not worry too much about the distance between the mid driver and the tweeter if you do not have time delay features, a basic EQ may help.

on axis = pointing at you, off-axis is not.

DUDE! It is for the tweeters only

Edit: forgot you were going for kicks.

Test different woofer positions, different angles, and same as tweets, a pillar would probably be the best way to go, they sound good at that location.

Also make sure you give those woofers the power they want, and don't over drive the tweets.

Set correct crossover points,levels and gains.

Spend time tuning and researching tuning techniques.

And time alignment would help.
