Tweeter Help???

I am doing research on Intra-cortal micro stimulation. Basically, we are serving the same purpose as cochlear implants for the deaf, but we go directly into the primary auditory cortex (a part of the brain). We would like to do high frequency testing so we need something that goeas past the audible range of humans (around 20 hz)

Not sure if any manufacturers would make a tweeter than can go that high. Why would they?

Sounds like some interesting research you have going on anyway.

no, you'd have to have a company build one for you. 60khz is way too high for any company to just have one lying around. It could probably be built though, I wouldn't see why not.

Only thing I can really think of that may work off the shelf would be ribbons or planar tweeters. If you look at partsexpress for Aurum Cantus ribbons, most of them have "rated" frequency response out to 40khz....if that's a -3db point for them, then another half octave up to 60khz may not be that bad response wise. Maybe look into LCY's aswell, such as the LCY130.

Electrostats too maybe...but a decent pair would be ungodly expensive.

But this is by far one of the oddest requests I've seen on this forum yet. And, considering the member base, that's quite a statement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

One word for ya .. Accuton --

Or you could get some specially designed peizoelectric devices...

That guy though will do the job and then some...

there have been some studies done that show that ultra high frequency information helps determine the location of the source but mostly if the source has a nearly omni directional radiation pattern -- it also can be upsetting if the only sound being created is ultra sonic -- but not every1 picks up on this... Sort of like those awkward silences -- the sort of quiet that is unnerving... there is always lots of ultrasonic noise going on -- especially in nature... and historically if everything is completely quiet it isn't a good sign...

Goodluck with the research //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- The ceramic tweeters are good till ~40khz -- you need that diamond tweeter to get faithful 60khz reproduction... -- if you don't mind a bit of erratic behavior -- 90khz is doable...

Just remember there is SERIOUS beaming this high in frequency //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If I had some money for some materials research I would be able to bring everyone diamond performance for about the same cost as the Seas Excel units... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif -- anyone good at writing grants lol?

The new tweeters on the alpine type x series supposidly do it, but I have my doubts about the alpine stuff. The LCY130 stuff looks promising. Thanks for all the help guys.

We are going to do some frequency analysis in the lab tomarrow with an old rockford tweet I have to see what it will do. Luckily, the tweeter will just be playing noise, not music, so perfect reproduction is not 100% neccessary.
