Turning off the Ignition before in Park???

I have to laugh at this douche he is asking a gay question about saving a little bit of gas so he can save the planet. Well I have a bit of info for YA! Hybrids when they are manufactured produce more pollution than my Honda civic. Heres why they they get the nickle from mines in Canada than that's shipped to Europe i think than on to china than to Japan were its installed in the car than shipped to America. So even before they get to the car lots they have put the equivalent of 4 years of driving my honda civic. Take that piece of info to your next tree hungers convention. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gifhttp://www.spike.com/blog/five-reasons-why/66839

Are you a FUCKING MORON?

Read the text in bold red VERY carefully then continuing reading the rest of the post.

I've found this statement on several informative websites that provide tips on saving and improving gas mileage:
"Turn off the car before putting it in park - Especially if you've auto-stopped when you pull into the parking space. This will let you turn off the car without having it kick in the gas engine again. If you put the car in park first, the gas engine will come on before you shut off the car. Every little drop helps!"

I can't find the exact link I found it on, but here is another one similar to what I had found. http://joefuture.com/blogs/joefuture/pages/Honda-Civic-Hybrid-Hypermiling-Tips.aspx

Just wondering if anybody does this. I know it's a bunch easier to put in park and take the keys out since it's only 2 steps as opposed to shutting the car off, putting in park, then taking keys out...which is 3 steps.
Where in the fucking world did I ask what you are stating? Am I asking how much gas it saves? Am I concerned with the pennies it will save me? Rhetorical question bitch. I simply asked "Who does this?" Is there any particular language you need me to translate to?

Before calling someone a douche, why don't you try to comprehend English first so maybe you don't make a douche out of yourself. You succeeded well enough to be known as the tard of the evening. Congratulations.

Some of the tips are complete crap. One example is the rolling the windows up and down. I would be willing to bet the extra wear on the motors and parts in the windows and cost to repair would offset the saved gas mileage ...

Also there is one that is total crap and I have proven many times. Although air resistance does increase very considerable amounts above 50, Depending the engine and the gearing the car , many cars get better gas mileage at 65 to 75 mph than they do at 55. If they are in their power band (point at which the engine operates the most efficiently) they get better gas mileage(as long as it isn't at like 90mph, because at a point the resistance does offset the increased engine efficiency). It is every vehicle dependent , the shape of the vehicle in addition to power band of motor and gearing all plays a part. I know a while back my 91 explorer I took on a trip from FL to ky and I was bored so the first whole tank I ran 65mph and got 19mpg. Next tank ran 75mph and got 22mpg. And a few trips I made with this vehicle I tried this and got same results every time. Same thing with my mit. mirage at 65 I got 34 mpg and at 75 to 80 the whole way got 38mpg. There is NO general rule that fits all vehicles. Anybody that says all cars that go above 50 or 60 etc gets worse gas mileage obviously don't understand physics and the concept of automobiles. The chances are a good amount of the ideas out there on how to save mpg could cause expenses other ways and really aren't worth the little you save. Bottom line, if you are worried about gas usage , then buy a small car PERIOD!

That's true. However, I think people who come up with such information are generalizing. Also, I've heard of such studies from several years back and cars have changed since then.

It is VERY vehicle dependent. I was doing 75 mph with windows open about 4" and was getting almost 32 MPG in my G35.

But rolling the windows down or up will make a difference. As you mentioned in your post the shape of the vehicle makes a huge difference, but if you have your windows down, you gain resistance. How much you roll them down will determine how much gas mileage you actually lose. Having them crack and having all windows down is a huge difference.
