Trying to understand the logic behind...

why the VC of my sub starts to get smelly when I play below tuning, but it is fine when I play above.

I understand that a voice coil will get smelly from the glue heating up on the VC former...caused by sending a speaker too much power. But the speaker should not get getting any difference in power, just from different frequencies...

I understand impedance rise, but is it really likely that I'm rising to acceptable levels of power for my sub when I'm above tuning, and when I'm below tuning the speaker is getting more power? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Edit: Oh, and the dustcap and cone on the sub NEVER get warm, unless abused for long periods of time.

i had a audioque 2.5 and it was in a box tune to like 35 hz and thats about right for the sub. i played some lower notes and i had some issues. its weird if u set your sub sonic right u should b good. just set your subsonic you still have my old amp?

I'm tuned in the area of 38-40. Yes, I still have your amp, and I'm sending the SDC2.5 the whole 870W from the 1200D. It plays lower notes fine, just gets really smelly when I try to play 35 and below...sounds fine though.

Subsonic is set fine.

i had the same issue with the same sub lol. dont let it play to low and your good to go. if its a daily set up your tune WAY to high bro. i say tune lower and you should b good to go. f uck that high tuning bs
It sounds fine. I know my tuning sucks, all I could do with my box design though. Aero ports ftl...

Wow, did I really post this in build logs? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

That is correct. Go clamp it and see what you rise to.
Thanks bro, you answered my questions then. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Hm, now where can I get my hands on a clamp meter without buying one...

Then also, realistically, 900W is too much for a SDC2.5. Unless I am clipping the amp, which might cause spikes in power, causing the coil to overheat and get smelly.

Yeah, I'm not getting the greatest voltage. Probably dropping to low 13's.

Gain is set kind of high on the amp. I need to readjust my gains for sure. The amp is probably causing the clipping...

Thanks babe. My new build starts in 11 days with six times the cone area and the subs are rated at 175W so I'll have more than enough power and I won't have to worry about overdriving my speakers to maximize output, shit should gonna be loud enough lol

sounds good hope u dont tune so high. make some videos and let me know when u get them up and goin. i been rockin the the stock system in my car lol. got like 20 watts of pure power in my ride. i even took out the stock sub, all highs in my ride
