Trying to stop aaaaaaaahhhhhhh

I smoked for 20+ years and have been smoke free for the past 2.75 yrs(July 15). I used Chantix to help me quit. The first week was bad, but after that, it's gravy. Just know this: If you don't want to quit for your own reason, but are quitting because someone else is pressuring you, it will be harder. I used mini chocolate candies, and yes, I got fat. I went from 210 to 275. I started a diet beginning of Jan this year, and have lost 40 pounds, to 235.

Anyway... yes, it's hard, but if you REALLY want to quit, you will. Just keep powering through it.

And... don't start smoking weed, that's the dumbest crap I have heard yet.

I enjoy it and its pain relieving benefits. It stops hangovers and spreads good moods so lets calm down.

well with weed it's not even in there with cigs to each there own with that, I'm stopping because my family history has a ton of heart attacks starting around mid 40's and I'm 31 and love my kids and would like to see them get old so in a way I would like to smoke but I'm also looking towards the future.

What really pushed me over the edge to quit was that little girl in my avatar. When she was a newborn, she would start to cry every time I came near her, because I stank of smoke. That was enough for me.

And, no, I didn't smoke around her, in the car or even in the house with her, just the smell of it on me made her cry.

I know what you mean my son would always tell me that I stink like a cig, and as his father I'm also his role model so when he looked at me and said I'm going to grow up and be big and SMOKE LIKE YOU........man my stomach sank and I went off about how BAD dad was for doing it and how he'd better not ever do something so bad and now my goal is to end this habit I picked up so long ago before I pass it on.

I tried Chantex,It worked as long as I could afford it.My insurance would not cover after the first med fill??? Never understood that one?Yet, It will work if you continue to take it, and you can smoke with it, and finally begins to take its toll once into your system,.Id check, or call to see if your Dr can prescribe you any/Insurance coverage.I think if I had half more of a months supply Id made it.Yet, after a 12pack of Brew at a Co.Xmas party, and around the crowd, and the stressful environment I generally work in,...Back at it again.1pk per day, sometimes I only smoke 2 cigs a day.But ,I think gradually smoking less and less, will also help, rather than shocking your system, and are trying/cutting back drastically! At that time in the morns, I drink Mt Dew rather than Coffee as everyonelse does,I swapped to tea,and in the store ..rather than buying a pack,id buy Popcorn or Pretzels.Worked for a bit.My oldest bro used Skoal Bandits/pouches..now hooked on those???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

I was never really a heavy smoker but I would alternate between smoking and chew for about 3 years or so. It's been awhile since I quit using tobacco regularly, I still have a cig once in awhile if my friend offers me a smoke at a party, but by no means do I crave it.

I stopped smoking and switched to Skoal for a few weeks and just weaned myself off. After awhile I would only have a dip or 2 a day and when my last can ran out, I just went cold turkey. Sure there were those moments where the only thing on your mind is, "gotta have a smoke/dip," but, if you can deal with the cravings for about a week or two then you should be good. Everyone deals with it differently so I was fine and didn't get too irritable, just kind of headaches/tunnel vision. The withdrawals don't last too long so just wait it out for a few times.

I honestly don't remember when I quit, I just care that I don't crave the ish anymore and don't have to throw away butts or keep spit bottles around. It's weird though because my family has a history of addictive personality and I handle tobacco and alcohol with no problem.

The Chantix is only a helper. It took the edge off the cravings. It is not a "miracle drug". If you don't have the deep devotion to quit, then Chantix will not help you. As I said, you have to really want to quit. I tried many many times, and was quit for 6 mos, but I never really wanted it for myself, just wanted to save money, or please a GF, or some other nonsense reason.

Keep at it, and try not go COLD TURKEY! That works for some people not everyone, but just jew some gum/toothpick/Straws/or find some activity, like waxing the car..LOL.Just kidding. But stick to your guns, and do it.Im not ready atm,but will be by end of this yr for certain, as my mind will be made up, and doing on my vacation,Camping by myself>>for at least a week.LOL

FUNNY, I quit 2 weeks ago. I used the patch for 2 days and I got blisters on the second day so I quit using them. I have smokes for 16+ years @a pack a day and quit once for 6 months aand it was such a struggle. This time I am determined to stop and it has been very smooth. But 20 min. ago I had an urge, now I am pissed and want to kill someone. So I came on here to try and take my mind off it and when I read the title of your thread it made me feel better. Good luck bro, and thanks for the help.
