Trying to optimize my sound ..

Guys/Gals,

I have just redone my system in my truck again .. and I am trying to tweak it to get the best possible sound out of it. I am not so much worried about the highs/mids cuz they sound pretty good .. but its the sub.

Being a musician, I know that every recording has a different EQ to it when they master... but it seems as though my bass is all over the place from track to track on the same CD. Just looking for any good tips to kinda "normalize" the bass if you will .. here is my setup ::

1999 Ford Ranger Extended Cab

Kenwood x891 Head Unit

JL 250/1 Mono Sub Amp

1 mFarad Cap

JL 12" W1v2 Sub

JL TR570-CXi (Back Speakers)

JL C5-570x (Front Speakers w/ tweeters not being used)

JL VR075-CT (In front in place of tweets in above speakers)

IPOD Connection & Sirius

Even though the head unit has 5v outputs, the amp seems to sound better when I have the switch set Low Volts with the sensitivity up a bit ...

I don't have the inside speakers running off an amp .. I used to have a 500/5 that ran them all, but I think that the speakers sound just as good if not better off the deck. Is there anything I could to to kinda round out the sound and dial in the sub a bit? Im not affraid to spend a bit of $ ... just shoot me some ideas.

well it sound fine, but obviosly every artist records differently ... expecially when it comes to the lower frequencys. i was just looking for something to clean up the sound. something better than the EQ on the head unit and the EQ on the amp.

You're running your interior speakers off of the headunit with minimal (if any) equalization. With your system, no offense, but EQ'ing the bottom two octaves is likely the least important area to be concentrating your efforts of sound improvement.

Most simple external equalizers won't offer more than 1 band of equalization within the subbass bandwidth.....this is something that your headunit probably already offers.

If you are wanting something to allow you to easily control the level of bass, then something like item # N-22V from the follow website would suit you well: http://davidnavone.com/linedrivers.htm
