Trying to match amp with subs. Need Help

Will this work and be efficient?

Power Acoustik 1250 watt amp max power, LAF Series, 280x2channel RMS(NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS)

Box with two 12" MTX Terminators Subs- 1200 Watts max power, 400 RMS Watts

Already got the speakers, just wondering if the amp and subs would be good together. Could i use more power in the amp, maybe a 1600 watt amp?
