sounds to me like the blacks should do more self-policing so the stereotypes will go away. The majority of people in prison are black. It's not because they've all been falsely accused by Buford T. Justice. Blacks commit more crime because it's accepted or even encouraged by their people. So it's only fair that people be a little apprehensive as the black man is statiscally more likely to be a criminal. Sorry.

blacks don't commit more crime, whites do. The proportions are higher for african americans, but not by as much as the media portrays. Crime is NOT encouraged in black communities either. I dunno where you got that from. And blacks are not statistically more likely to be criminals. NOw if you can find data to prove me wrong, I will gladly agree with u. but what you state is not true

Rap music isn't even the highest grossing form of urban music, R&B is followed by jazz. geez don't believe in everything you see on mtv, talk to someone instead of making generalizations from afar

Heck in my Black Theology class in college I defended all the white people in class from the clowns that called them "white devils." Such blatant disrespect and ignorance does not help anyone nor make things better. I"ve been called uncle tom a few times because I don't go along with the "white man is racist" dialogue I hear from time to time.

But I also want to make it clear that this kind of talk is not common.

ive said it plenty before and ill say it again. ALL people and races have some racisim in them. some may be very little others a ton. i have some racist views but i dont hold them against every black person instead just against those who are fitting of the term. there are good people and bad people of every race. its a person is a piece of shit who cares what color they are. at the end of the day theya re just that, a POS.

the entire time i was in the military the talk you speak of happened daily. to the point that i just started using nigger the same way they used cracker, honky, white bitch, etc.... if someone is going to use a racial slur around me then i will disrespect that person as well. after the slurs were brought to the attention of our 1SG (who was a very proud black man) and Commander by a lot of people nothing ever happened to anyone that did the same thing.

racisim doesnt go just 1 way.

i will say though that i HATE the word but it IS NOT a derogatory slur against a black person anymore. the word has little to no meaning since it has become so accepted especially by blacks. its just another word in the dictionary now.

instead of giving up on doing what's right and going "eye for an eye" with the disrespectful talk, you could have used a better approach. Would it have worked to sit down personally and get to know them and explain you didn't like their language? maybe, maybe not but I don't endorse stooping down to an ignorant person's level either. The people that were disrespectful to u were wrong, and if I were around them I would tell them the same. But that doesn't mean it was right of you to just throw it back. 2 wrongs still never make a right, that's what's wrong with this country. People are so pent up with the desire for vengeance they lose compassion for one another

i feel the same way as u penn, but white people, even the "non racist" ones, can be pretty narrow minded when it comes to stereotypical things...they post stuff like "there is more blacks in jail" or "1 out of brothas are i jail"....they dont say the whole story...did you know that for the same crime we are sentenced 75 % harsher than our white counterparts? This is fact...the same crime...not saying we are perfect...but we get a raw deal alot/mostof the time...we dont have the opportunities

some of them were my friends so the "racial slurs" between us were nothing more than a joke between us.

as for sitting down to get to know them or whatever. in the military we are required usually at the company level to have classes every 6 months dealing with equal opportunity, race, gender descrimination, etc.... to those people i am speaking about that i wouldnt consider a friend it all goes right over their heads. they could care less. i wasnt saying they were disrespecting me directly more so that they were disrespecting anyone that heard them say the things. if its ok or nothing is going to be done to certain people for using racial slurs then why should the hammer fall on someone else that does as well.

that has more to do with a lack of adequate legal representation. Govt appointed counsel usually doesn't care enough to get a good verdict or sentence for their clients. So I would venture to say that's more of a representation/class issue than race issue

as i said it isnt even a racial slur anymore. it is still viewed as one but since its such a common word in every day use especially with blacks it has no meaning at all anymore.

of course depending on the situation and tone it is used of course it can be a very vulgar racial slur though.

you have a just point, but the military has to be sensitive how they treat minorities because of their reputation with minorities in the past. Is that your fault? of course not, but it is what it is. It was well documented the way black soldiers were treated as less than during WWII and the korean war. Some reports say black soldiers were treated worse than the war opposition and pOWs
