Trying to get my pioneer fh-x700bt to sound "right"

I have a Nissan Frontier and I've recently added a pioneer fh-x700bt and a Dyna Quest DQC-803B Super Compact Active Subwoofer. I'm not wanting to win an competitions but I'd like better sound and right now it doesn't sound much better than the factory 6-disc changer did. The sub really hasn't added much bass to the factory 6-speakers.

I should add I am running the sub through the rear sub RCA's in the back and it's under the seat and grounded to the seat frame. I plan on replacing the door speakers but it seems like when I do they will over power the subwoofer because I'm not getting much additional sound from it. I don't know if I don't have the head unit adjusted right or something is not hooked up correctly. The HU has a high pass filter, bass boost which seems to bog the factory speakers down speakers and I think a 6 band equalizer. The bass boost is adjustable but i can't figure out how to get it working to sound correctly.
