Truck system

Hello, I'm new here and looking for some suggestions and opinions.

I am wanting to get a new sound system for my pickup.

Here is what I currently have...

2004 Chevy 1500 ext cab

factory HU with 6 speaker system (non Bose)

I am going to have to do this in steps and this is the order I was thinking

first....Speakers ( fronts first )

second...Head Unit

third...some type of Amp

forth....back fill speakers

Time frame might be over the next 1 1/2 yrs

I suppose my budget would be around $300 to $400

I'm not looking for something to blow the doors off, just something simple that sounds good.

Am I OK on the order of steps ?

If so.....I'm not sure on the front speakers. Should I get component system Or just stick with a good set of coaxials ?

I have been looking at a set of Polk Audio 651s or 6501components ...are these worth it or is there another set you would suggest ? I have seen alot of others talked about here... Phoenix Gold, Image Dynamics, Pioneers and others.

I'm not apposed to buying something used either if any of you have something that would fit.

Thanks for reading and Thanks for any suggestions or opinions you might share

To fit in your budget is going to be hard. Start at looking into the "bang for the buck" items like the PG RSD6.5c comp set. The mid will drop right in the factory opening w/o any mods. The tweet you'll need/want to make a baffle for and I'd put it in the factory tweet location.

HU will be fun as you'll have to decide on your own wants/needs. Plus if you want to keep your chimes as they run through the HU so there's a nice $$ harness to buy if you want them, if not???? Oh well.

A decent 50 x 4 amp will do the job for the 4 corners.

The rears are 4 x 6's. I'd just get whatever is cheapest that sounds decent. I don't use rear fill in mine so I had no need to replace them.

Check my install link in my signature. I raised the rear seat up 2" so there's options you still have if you, later down the road, want to add a sub/s.
