Truck Box Construction

it doesnt matter which way it is turned.. u can try em out to see which one u like the best tho..i dont see any difference when i face my sub in a different directions tho

I'm planning to make it myself, just trying to gather all my info. It will more than likely be for a Type R, but I'm going to build the box with a small cut out and see if there is room for a 12 or if it will just be a 10.

whoa buddy, you're building the box backwards!

Take measurements and see what kind of clearance you'll have FIRST.

Then build a box to the max measurements that'll fit under your seat.

Find/use an available box formula to see what airspace you have.

Do some research to find out the best sub for the enclosure, 10" or 12", based on space, and mounting depth.

THEN cut the hole.

i have a 10" wedgeq logic sealed box ill sell u for 30 +shippin itll deff fit in ur truck..yah u cant do that u have to plan it out ..u cant just build a box and cut out the circle and see whats big enough..

Thats what I'm saying, I'll have a easier time knowing the actually size if I build it first. I'll know exactly how much volume it has. Then I can decide if it will be for a 10 or 12.

oh alright.. well i have that box if u want it..

sealed and type r dont go together...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

I'm going to take some measurements today, it has to be a funny shaped box to take advantage of all the space under the seat.

Is there an easier way to get the volume without actually building the box?

downfiring a sealed box is your best option. check out any of the truck forums if you have any doubts..

ie. s10forums.com, ranger-forums.com, fullsizechevy.com, superdutyforums.com etc., etc.

if you are going ported...either a wall style where the subs face the back seats and the port is up top or down below...or the way I have it, to where the sub is upfiring along with the port. Also you can try port to the side (min clearance is about 12" for optimum performance

trust me, i've done some pretty extensive testing..i've gone through about 10 boxes and 15 subs with this truck. I've tried 8's, 10's, and 12's...by far the single10 has been the loudest.

-i went sealed 2 8's at first (a friends re re's)

-then sealed 10 (pretty quiet) but loud for a single 10

-then ported 10 (1.5 cubes tuned to 32) that was ok...just ok though

-then sealed 12

-then dual sealed 12...that was the first one to make my ears hurt believe it or not

-then dual ported 12 (3.75 cubes tuned to 34) i don't really have enough power to push this setup anymore. they were just not going to full excursion. it really wasn't that loud.

now i'm at another "custom" ported 10...that is the loudest by far. It's got a few secrets involved...not thought of by me or designed...or built.

This was killing my ears at first when I got it...but I must have been a noobx then...now at full tilt I'm looking for other ways to make it louder. Everyone that hears my truck says their ears hurt and their body shakes..i've yet to experience either lately

i'm telling you...single sub setups for teh win!

my single 10 is louder than the dual 12's

although the dual 12's was a crappy install and box..it still wasn't that loud. I think I just didn't have the right airspace or something was off. I said screw it and just bought a custom box from someone that was to spec from me.

I would try a wall of 2 12's with port up by your ears...that will be the loudest in my testing....make sure you have enough power...i don't know why but it seems to me those r's love power. And in your truck...don't be scared when you have the windows up and there is pretty much NO bass whatsoever...it's just a truck...it does that

if you have any more questions just pm me

oh yea..before someone flames...this was one truck, one amp, one wiring install w/o big 3 and w/o a cap. I get about 39 volts at full tilt on a 50hz cycle at 0db before my volts drop to 12 (running straight off batt) so i doubt I'm even getting about 800 watts out of my hifonics 1605d

i can't even get my single 10 to get moderately stinky at the level to where my voltage doesn't drop.

alright...thats my speal...pm me if you need help

EDIT:: All subs besides the 8's were type r's

and i forgot to throw in the kicker l7 15...that was a sick loud setup...4.5cubes tuned to 38...didn't slam the lows...but it was sick loud for a DD...i blew the crap out of that sub from clipping my amp (that was when i was a major noobx and didn't know about the DMM) so I ventured on to the type r's...

i never got any of these setups on the TL...i'm guessing i'm at a high 30 right now w/ that 10...maybe a 40...low low low 40
