So I got my first ever speeding ticket this past Monday. How do I find out if there is a traffic school I can go to to reduce the tickiet, reduce the points, and/or keep the ticket from going on my insurance? I know we have a lot of speeders here, so I figure some of you have gone through the process.

I got that info through the court...put me in touch with the people who handled registrations for that.

If you go in person, it's a mind-numbing day, but you definitely meet some interesting people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Google...

Have you done the first step and asked your state BMV/DMV??? Asked the county clerk?? All places are different and you are always on shakey ground asking fellow CA members for legal advice...

Some states allow for a defensive driving course. Although it will not remove the current points from your license, it will gove you a point credit (6 points in indiana). That means that your license holds the current points,, but.. if you get another within 2 years, the points do not compound on your license and your DD course credit eats them.

So when I go to court, I'm assuming I just plead guilty and ask about the school? This is just a bit confusing to me because I've never been to court, never gotten a speeding ticket before, and this is only the second ticket I've recieved since I started driving almost six years ago.

have you had court yet? do you have to go to court? if you don't have to go to court contact them before you pay the ticket about school..
No, I'm not required, but I have a court date should I choose to go instead of just paying the ticket.

How much were you over the speed limt?
14. Going 79 in a 65.

I found an online school that seems to be approved for ticket dismissal and insurance discounts for the issuing county, so hopefully it will work. I'll be calling the Clerk of Courts on Monday though to make sure before I sign up for anything. I would much rather pay the $30 for the online thing than the $186 for the ticket.

have you ever had court supervision . i know ive done it a couple of times if you don't get a ticket in like an X number of moths they throw the ticket out all you have to do is pay court cost

you need to double check with your court about online traffic schools. some of them don't accept certain ones. i would recommend happy traffic school. it's cheap and super easy. i did mine in less than an hour.

I don't know how WI works, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got waived of the actual speeding penalty part of the ticket cost, but still had to pay $50-$75 in court costs. I didn't get out of that part in taking traffic school.

Nope. Other than quite a few parking tickets (most of which were campus-issued, not police-issued) I've only recieved one ticket in my life and I paid that right away.

ide ask for court supervision you might be on it for like 6 months to a year but its better then having points on your license . but the thing that sucks about it is that if you get another ticket in that time then the one you weer on super vision for is brought back up and you get hit with a double whammy. i know the first time i was on it its was for a year i got cough doing 53 in a 30 (i was just glad he didn't nail me 3 min before) and no insurance cause i didn't know my insurance had lapsed . keep out of trouble for a year then the second one i got hit in a parking lot in the back end and they said it was for improper backing got put on it for 6 months then but im done with that now and back to speeding like a mad man i just watch out for cops and have a radar detector
