Tough Subs?

Hi

I want to put 2 10" subs in my X-tera. Because these sub will be in the trunk where I throw a lot of my gear I need a pair of really tough subs with about 300w RMS. Water resistant, strong construction, well made. I also want really clean tight bass.

Any sugestions???

Yeah, my sugguestion is some heavy duty grills, a sealed enclosure with the inside resin-ed and the outside painted (if water is that much of a concern) and a sub with either a polypropilene cone or aluminum cone, or one with a paper cone that can handle the extra weight of a single layer of resin.

I ski and surf alot so water and snow tend to end up in my trunk.

I was thinking about covering the enclosure in a rubber mat to keep the water out.

yeah i hear painting the cone w/ a layer of resin adds dbs:wow:

The Eclipse Aluminums are great for what you described. I believe they work well in sealed apps also!

Paint the box, and look into special grills.

Nothing like adding Mms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif Lower your Fs that way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

But yeah; I agree with everyone else that if you are that worried about it, look for something with a metal cone like the Eclipse Aluminums, Soundsplinter subwoofers, etc etc.

IMO, if a sub is motored well enough, the extra weight would be neglegible. I was actually serious about resoning over a paper cone woofer! Imagine taking something insanely overmotored like the Eclipse Ti Pro and adding enough weight to drop the FS to 15hz. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif Efficiency and SQ would be non-existant, but I'll be ****ed if it wouldn't hit the low notes.
