total sound quality, spl not the issue

I have the CDT eurosport es-643 component set, an eclipse cd8053 hu, an audiocontrol dqs, and currently working on an xtant 3300x and 4180x. I am going to go fully active with the high/mid/low outs balanced from the headunit. As you can see, I have top of the line components, and I am trying to complete the system. I have a ten inch sub by cdt that I was using, but in my new car its just not cutting it. I am probably going to go with 2 tens or 1-2 twelves. I am not really concerned with blowing the trunk lid off. All I want is really, really tight, clean bass. I have been thinking about the RE SX series or maybe the focal k2. I thought about completing the CDT eurosport line with a es12sq, but I can't say I've had the pleasure to hear them in person and don't really know if they're worth the price tag (500/per). I thought about a single 13w7, but honestly the specs aren't really all that sq oriented (as badass of a sub as it is). If anyone had ideas please send them my way! Does anyone have any comments on Xtant's subs? I know their older amps are freaking amazing, but I don't know much about their crazy shaped subs and their performance in the sound quality world. Thanks a lot, Matt.

Quick addition.. I will probably be porting the subs due to the layout of my car.. I have an '04 BMW 325Ci convertible.. The trunk really eats the bass, especially with the top down.. SOO.. I am probably going to shoot the ports into the cab from the pull-out center section in the rear seat.. That way when I'm driving with the top down I'll actually still have a little bass.. Any comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated..

Not sure why you want to go ported...

If sealed is still an option, look into the DIYMA 12". If you're still stuck on a ported design, I would suggest going with a Peerless XXLS.

What is this new "mag" that you speak of? Haven't heard of it.. Also, on the utopias... I am so confused as to what specifications in the Qts and Vas and etc are best for sq?? There are some subs with lower Qts ratings, higher resonating frequency, and lower Vas which are renouned for their sound quality, whereas the focals have drastically higher Qts and Vas than say the IDQ or RE-SX.. I looked at some reviews and such for the Aura NS series subs and they look really ideal, EXCEPT for the fact that they're not recommended to be used ported.. I normally would prefer a sealed enclosure anyways, but I fear that the convertible won't produce the sound I've grown to love without a ported box.. Any comments to those regards? Anyone had a convertible and had to deal with sound loss issues? Also, as far as the Auras go.. Do you have any recommendation as to where to look for them if I decide to purchase? Any places with better deals? I could find very little on the internet about them..

Wow, those DIYMA 12s are pretty impressive! Are they pretty much a wanna be focal sub? I'm just referring to the unique magnet design.. The price is absolutely insane though! I would love to go sealed if the sound will still be there.. I have just seen how much the trunk killed the cdt ten that I currently have in there, but I suppose going to 2 12s would quickly solve that problem... Anyone else have comments on the DIYMAs?

I must say, I hadn't heard of either of these, but they both look like amazing drivers... What exactly is the significance of the Vas figure? I noted that the peerless has almost double that of the focals, which was actually considerably higher than most other subs... Anyone else have an opinion on these subs?

I know what you're going through with the trunk situation. Out of the 10" subs I've heard, the Morel Ultimo 10 and IDMAX 10 (both sealed) stand out to me. I personally went with the idq10v3 though because of space constraints, and because it sounds just like a max getting less power. It kicks rather hard through the bulkhead, and keeps up with some of the more complicated songs I play. Ported is louder, but sealed for music duty just sounds the best to me.
