Total Installation Noob!

Well it took me about 3 hours but then again I didn't know what i was doing. I'd be impressed by anyone doing it in 20-30 mins //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I listened some more today on the way to work. It's very revealing. FM and XM sound not so good. The CD is excellent but i could see it being better. I'm convinced it's the speakers. Tons of power, it goes plenty loud for me.

Do i need an amp if i replace the speakers? The stock speakers are comps. How much do I need to spend to improve the speakers? i'd like a sub but I haul a lot of stuff in my suv, I don't want to give up any space in the rear. Any options??

Thanks

Ian

You could go with 1 or two 10 or 12s sealed that only require about .6 cu ft each. That's less than an 11 x 11 x 11 box per sub (box doesn't have to be a perfect square). You could place one in each corner of your trunk. There are also custom options where you might have enough room between the frame of your trunk and the interior panel where a fiberglass box could be made, but you're talking $300+ just for the box.

You don't have to get an amp if you replace the speakers, but to really untap the potential of new speakers you should. You can get a good pair of components online for around $170. I use Polk MMC6500.

The truck has compnents right now. Would the new tweeter fit where the old one is? Is it common for them to be the same size?

Sound Quality is what's most important to me, I want to feel like I'm listening to a nice hifi. I know that's hard to do but I'd like to maximize the sound quality if I could.

Yeah you should be able to make them fit. I am going to pick up some comps soon and plan on putting them in my factory locations.

Are you going to buy an amp?

Where is your factory location?
In the corner of the dash on both sides

I bought a kicker 150.2 amp and plan on getting some PGS or Pioneer D series 6.5 components.

That is unless I can find some higher end comps in the classifieds

How much can you spend on a sub/amp or 2/components

I think my talent is limited to putting a HU in so I would have to pay for somone to put an amp and speakers for me. I'd like to spend maybe $150 on speakers, I don't know how much amps are but hopefully $200-250?? Still not sure where I can put a sub, I'd really like some better low end.

I am sure you could do it yourself

Why do you think you couldnt?

You wont its easy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So whats ur budget if you do it yourself?

just speakers it would be 150-200

if I kept the stock speakers and added a sub and amp maybe 250

I'm trying to do it bit by bit cos of cost and I also don't want to overwhelm myself it I try and do the work myself.

Like I said the most important thing to me is good sound not loudness.

well, I'd really like to have some low end, so maybe a sub first. Trouble is if I knew that new speakers would be much better I'd probably go for that! No!! Sub first, I've decided //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i know everyone wants to start off with a sub but i would really reconsider and get an amp and comps first. There really is no point in having sub(s) that just drown out your crap stock speakers.

See thats half my problem. When I go to an audio store i don't think any of the speakers sound all that good cos they're stuck on a wall and not in my car. If I was convinced that adding an amp and comps would be a big improvement then I would do that. I guess I don't know to what level my stock speakers ****.
