torn tinsel fixable?

The lead was slapping the hell out of the spider and cone and eventually broke it off -- that is why it happened //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Notice it melted in to the spider ?

i would recommend a recone because of the spider damage.

if you want a cheap fix buy some tinsel lead. cut the old leads 1" from the cone. solder new lead to the old lead. turn sub cone down and glue the connection to the back side of the cone with GOOP,let dry 2 hrs. make a nice sized loop and then solder to the terminal. do this to all 4 lead wires the others will break too.

i have fixed a few of these this way with no problems. if they glued the leads up on the cone to start with it would have never touched the spider. they also have there leads on the short side. hope this helps ya out. contact dave Fix My Speaker - Custom Subwoofer Rebuilds, Repairs, and Supplies! for some leadwire, cheap fix...

I doubt its melted cause the felt is perfectly fine.. I assume its just from rubbing in there for so long.. 1yr+.. I talked to nick he said I played it under tuning which I haven't... I rechecked my ssf and it was at 28-30hz on a 24db slope there is no exact marking/ticks/slashes etc but its in that spot.. .. gains were set to 2500 on the dot. rechecked box size/port its tuned at 30hz. I don't even play any music at under 30-32hz anyways.. he says based on the the way the mounting tabs for the tinsel were bent was based on the sub being played under tuning.. which well is untrue.. even the stock lead is fairly TIGHT.. these are supposed to have some excursion correct? with the tinsel leads as short as they are I can't see it happening without bending em in.. even pushing up on the cone the stock ones get tight.. no wonder they would bend it inwards.. Never had any problems with other subs. W6s they were sewn in I believe..

any one have pics of the btls tinsels on the old school ones? want to see if its just mine or a common problem.. want to see how much slack yours have aswell..

I soldered them for now..

its a common problem. to properly check ur subsonic you need to play tones, because if the knob gos from 20hz to 40hz i doubt 30 is exactly middle. re subs do the samething. he could say too much power cause the sub isnt 2500rms though. it's a cheap fix do the leads like i said above and no problems.

how you did it now so will mess up the coil. you will have 1 short lead so it will be pulling to that side makeing the coil rock and rub til the lead breaks again...

its a 15-35hz I put in 1/4-1/8 a turn off of 35hz.. and I soldered a little on to the end of the torn ones.
