i have a 12" mmats pro-casts and part of the surround on one of them is ripped, what can i do to fix it and does anyone know what might have caused it because it's starting to happen on the other speaker.
Please do not do what the other gentleman said. Please talk with the company that you bought the sub from. Ask them if they can fix the subwoofer's surround, or if you can buy a repair kit. If the company has a repair kit, I would recommend you having them putting the kit to work on the subwoofer, and not you. Because, if they mess it up, you can have them buy you brand new ones.
Why send it back and wait a month, when you can spend 50 cents on some material to cover the hole in the surround. Its wont affect performance at all, if done correctly.
If the sub is under warranty, and the warranty covers whats wrong with it, then by all means, send it in.
brads a dumbass whatever he says do the complete oppisite and youll be fine. but yes put some rubber cement. i've never done it but i heard its good to put the same amount on the other side were the sub will fire evenly or something. im not very sure about that though so dont take my word for it
If you have already damaged the surround, it can be repaired with little or no change in performance. Everyone has an adhesive of choice. I prefer contact cement for this job. It can be applied in a very thin layer and remains very flexible. The following images are a before and after of the repair. When applying the adhesive, I use a cotton swab that I've cut the cotton off of. You can use anything that will allow you to get the adhesive into the repair site. You want to apply the adhesive to both sides of the damaged edge of the surround. Generally, coating the applicator and simply inserting it into the tear will assure proper application of the adhesive. After the adhesive is applied, realign the foam to where you want it. You need to work fairly quickly because the adhesive will start to set up in a minute or so. Allow a couple of hours before playing it at full power. If you apply the adhesive properly and get the surround back together as it should be, the speaker will be as good as new. I've never had one fail after being repaired. The repair below does not look very strong but I could not pull the repaired area apart after the adhesive set.
my friend had that problem only some kid decided to see if the pencil would break if the sub hit it .,., anyway after the dumb @$$ did that he put duct tape on it and it seems to work fine but dont do that in my opinion
