Um....Jay-Z's biting of random lines has absolutely nothing to do with his talent and/or success. Listen to Reasonable Doubt and Blueprint for evidence of his talent. His savvy and charisma helped make him successul.

I mean, dont get me wrong. Im not hatin a Jay at all. He do what he gotta do to get paid. But i dont see how people gone put down other rappers that jay has bitten off of. I mean, they must of been something fo him to bite off of. I personally dont like Jay. I really dont see why he can be called the best, when he has taken enough lyrics to make a whole new cd. (and this is what a discussion should be. i appreicate you not commin at me tryna tell me im uneducated and all this stupid mess) you get respect from me for that

 
im not even gonna respond to this guy anymore. and by the way i lost all my respect for jay-z now. all that shit was from other rappers...how lame. i see the light karleon.

Finally....People talk about Jay like he God when he has taken all kinds of lyrics from other rappers. Me and some more people was having this discussion not to long ago and this guy pulled all of those lyrics up and compared. It truly blew my mind away. A song or two is aight. But dats ridiculous

 
i never said jayz was better than biggie, all that i said was jayz is the best current rapper that is / was still rapping.... if biggie was here shyt who knows what could have happen, but he isn't he's laid to rest.

jayz has given enough props to biggie and after biggie died the only person i see that has stepped up to the plate was jayz, even him coming up has brought nas to a new level w/stillmatic but i can honestly say that jayz although not being able to top blueprint has still came w/some hot joints whereas nas after stillmatic hasn't impressed me, but i really really really can't say much about nas's new stuff b/c i haven't given it too much play in my ride.... which says something about an artist too..... top 5 can mean differnet things for different people..... some like a catchy hook or beat from the start and that draws people in to hear the album..... Nas hasn't shown me anything as of late.

You're right to an extent, but you have to remember that hip-hop is an artform based on sampling. Great producers don't just take a random sample, loop it, add drums and snares and call it a day, they chop it up and flip it. In the same vein, Jay doesn't take entire verses from rappers and pawn them off on his own. Rather, he's taken a bar here and a bar there. Plus, he's admitted that he does it to show respect to the greats that came before him. Whether you believe his rationalization or not is up to you, but he has admitted it. The man has undeniable lyircal talent when he's on the top of his game, so it's not as if those few random lines are reflective of his talent. I don't see why you view it as such a big deal, especially in the rap industry.

i mean, its not that BIG of a deal to me. I personally dont like Jay and I feel like there are many other rappers out their thats better than him. In my opinion, he is entirely over rated. But all that is my opinion. This whole subject got blown out of hand. I dont care what Jay do and say. He do what he has to do to make money and I respect that. But no one will ever catch me buying a jayz cd. As stated by limitedkid, top 5 can mean different things by different people. As Pac isnt on his list, Jay isnt on mine.

And to me, your lists sucks ***.....never even heard of a 3rd of them....and the otherones that i have heard i dont like... at all.

lil jon is probably one of the worst rappers i've ever heard. if anybody named them as one of the best lyrical artists then i dont know whats wrong with them. yeah maybe his BEATS are good for clubs and dancing, but read his lyrics without the music in the background and read how terrible his lyrics are (if he says anything besides what, yeah, and okay.)
