Yup...you can't change the fundamental business practice with one settlement.
The true weasels are the human-undead and swine that run Clear Channel and its deriatives - putting corporate pressure on the FCC to amend station ownership regs. There can't be anything good coming out of having multiple stations in a single region; in some places, having an entire city served by only one company's stations. Radio is not an appropriate medium for monopolistic competition. Anyone with two thousand bucks, the will to do it and something to say could take to the air, but the only thing stopping them is the corporations, acting through the federal government...

That's because we've been conditioned on nothing but shallow commercialism and flat-out shit.

Doesn't have to be that way, but that's what broadcast FM has turned out to be, save the very few indepedent low power stations out there. AM, meanwhile, has stagnated under nothing but news & traffic report stations and shock jocks. Nothing really of value there. American-run shortwave stations are even more worthless - other than the VOA and WBCQ out of Maine, every other US-based SW station is run by a religious organization.

Radio is a waste. Up here CRTC = 30% Canadian content. What's that mean for non-top 40 listeners? Getty Lee. I hate him so much. Stupid high voiced bastard. I propose a fight to the death. Me vs Getty Lee. I'd be all hitting him in the face with a tire iron. Maybe make a docu-drama about the whole ordeal.

Not that I listen to the radio, save an independant that some friends work at.
