i was curious, and these were free, so i took one apart. you have to break it to get it out, its like a one time deal, the trim piece around the speaker and tweet is like in with rivets...oh well. i have a pretty cool idea...ill post it up when i finish the sketch up..but its not going to get built until the Mini is done //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

anyways heres pics. its a lil philips 5" and a ribbon tweet... box is .1875 cubes before speaker/port displacement. from what im getting, the port is tuned at like 64hz.

ok f it, ill post my plan

im gonna build a little desk for my PC..the one i have isn't working for my setup, my pc doesn't fit under it right, etc, and its too small to fit the tower, monitor, keyboard, etc on the desk...so im gonna build one, and implement these 4 5" speakers, and 4 tweets into the desk, as well as a little cubby for my reciever, pc, etc.

should i include the ports, using the same airspace and port length?

should i leave the ports firing back as they are now, or should i put the ports firing at me, along with the mids/tweets?

crossover

lol @ the crossover.

You could get the woofer tester from PE and get the T/S for the moofs and model a couple different ideas. The drivers don't look to bad(of coourse looks can mean absolutely nil). The crossover looks like it isn't desirable though.

i know haha, its whatever though. i lawled at the little 2" aero LOL.

i plan on taking all four 5.5s, and all 4 ribbon tweets, and making the same size enclosures but built into the desk im building to fit perfectly in the corner of my room.

The ideal would be to test the woofer and redesign the enclosure and crossover from scratch. This can be expensive and time consuming if you don't have the proper tools, and may not be worth the effort for the given drivers. So yeah you can probably just use the same size enclosure and ports. I doubt the woofers can move enough air to produce port noise from the 2" tubes anyway. If you have extra materials you could try a few different boxes (I'd try a little larger and tune a little lower) and see how it affects output. As far as the crossover, again, a true redesign would require driver testing, but you could also figure out the crossover point and try a steeper slope and/or higher quality components and see if there is a difference. At least throw a coil on the woofer if you can. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Brian, you're an awesome dude and you know a ton more about this than I do, but we're dealing with 4 free Phillips speakers being placed in a desk here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

You know, I forgot to mention. That woofer just might work well in a quarter wave or horn type enclosure if you really wanted to experiment. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif You're right, haha //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

But you never know just how much you can improve. The Best Buy Insignia coaxial speakers are supposedly really good with a redesigned crossover and enclosure.

This is what I'd recommend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
