Too Small or Too Large

I have an older JL 12w1 and lack the time and tools to build a box right now. JL recomends a 1.5 cu ft enclosure. All the prefabs I find are from 1.25 or 1.7. Which of these should I spring for? Is it better to be undersized or oversized. What would be the differences in SQ? This is not a high power precision system just needing some clean thump for accent.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If your gonna spend the money anyway, why not save a little more and have moe or somebody here build it. Or you could check out places like woodlawncabinetry, and have them build you exactly what you need. Your sub would thank you for it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I bought my 1.25cu ft. sealed box from a car audio shop (custom made) for $35. I put about 1/2 lb of polyfil in it. Sub hits pretty hard and sounds great.

Oh, I would do the 1.25 cu. ft. sealed and add a lil polyfil.
