TOO much power for a little 12" type r?

i just got an Alpine Type R 12"...and i have a friend who is selling me a JL 500/1 amp for a GOOD PRICE...i have herd from SEVERAL people that the JL can push MUCH MORE than what is said, ive recently herd it hooked up to 2 15" type R subs and it pushed BOTH of them just fine, so preety much what im asking is will it be WAY to much power to push a single 12"?...btw if it helps im going sq...thanks:veryhapp:

It should be fine...it probably pushes around 630...
