to those with degrees in business...

I'm about to finish my AA in december, most....actually almost all of the jobs I've been looking at require a bachelor's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
im noticing this as well.

well depending on how much the woman makes betwen now and then, we may be able to afford me only taking a 2 year. then i would have to go back and finish. either way , i would be making more with an AA than without one imo.

while it is refreshing to see actual responses in the thunderdome , some of you make it seem that if you arnt making $100k + you arnt 'making it'. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

depending on where you live, 100k isn't alot of money.

I am in my senior year of a Business Technology degree with plans to be a high school business teacher. Starting pay in my area which is mainly rural is around 33k with great benefits and a good work schedule.

I got a BA in management but I'm a worthless peon. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Looking for something better, but opportunities really aren't there in something that I could potentially like to do.

keyword opportunity. everyone has the opportunity. what gets in the way of everything though? competition. a main factor in business no matter what it is. weather it be a job who can do just as good as a job your going after shutting that one down, or someone else who can do the job better shutting you out. its quite simple really. you have to go where the opportunity outweighs the competition. like in northeast ohio there used to be shit loads of jobs. all the jobs here went over seas. minimum wage went up so you have people who worked their ***** off only to make the same as someone whos never worked in their life. i just graduated highschool and the only thing i can do is save, and go find the opportunity. im better at graphic design than more than half of the local college students going for that degree in this city. yet i would have to compete with them and make the same as them. i cant afford a really expensive school even though i can meet the expectations of the work field. and yea it isnt as easy for someone to just get up and move. but its never too late to go back to school. once you save the money and the time is right, you can do anything. and to the op, you may only be worthless in your area. but you have to find a place and narrow down the factors until you know you can make it where you go

here's the deal boys.....AA in Bus in better than nothing. After you graduate, apply for entry level positions but make it clear on your resume that you plan on furthering your education. If you are comfortable making 30-40k then live with it...if not go back for a bachelor's/masters. The job I have pays 70k top pay with no college, but next fall I'll be going back to college for a Bach. in Marketing and moving down to corporate headquarters making $100k plus. The company is also footing the bill for my schooling = another $70k. Life is what you make of it...not what it makes of you.

exactly! That's the route you should go with a business degree, especially if you already work for an employer with corporate offices.

I'm unemployed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Indeed, and most MBA programs require 2-4 years of work experience anyway...so the transition to grad school isn't as straightforward as some other majors.

I wouldn't do the associates, though, unless you really don't have another choice. Go for the BS.

It comes down to is college worth it right now. If your employer pays for it, then jump on it for sure.

You need to carve out a niche in your field. These days there are a lot of unemployed people who probably have skills/training/schooling just like you and are fighting for the same jobs, all while companies are tightening headcount budgets, laying people off, and having hiring freezes. To showcase your skills and work ethic you have to at least get your foot in the door, which in these times might be hard to do.

In July, the unemployment rate for college graduates was 4.7%, up from 2.8% a year earlier, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's still considerably lower than the 9.4% rate for workers with only a high school diploma.

Having a degree definitely appears to help in your chances of gaining employment or staying employed. Those numbers don't show the people with degrees that aren't working in their trained career path though, say those that just graduated or were recently laid off who are delivering pizza to try to make ends meet. I'm guessing it sucks for the percentage of the 4.7% unemployed who still have school loans. Unemployment doesn't pay the bills, it definitely won't help you pay down your student loans.

These are shitty times
