why do image dynamics subs crumple/crinkle/crease or warp orrrr whatever u wanna call it at the rubber suround, huge excursion yeah, but why dont they modify the sub and put wider suround on it.

The surrounds 'dimple' on many high-roll surround subs. It doesn't hurt anything. As said above, a wider surround would yield less cone area, the high-roll surround is actually preferable generally.

if you are getting your idmax to crinkle the surround then you are getting to the subs limits. The voice coil will eventually start to rock and end up becoming out of alignment as alot of idmax's do. Its ok to crinkle just a bit but not too much. I know from 1st hand experience!
