To invert....or not to invert.....

With IDMAX's, there's no question there. The *** end of that moofer looks so much better than the front //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The box will be sealed. Can sealed subs not be inverted or somethin? I haven't done much researching on the whole inversion deal.

Those IDs do look sweet from front or rear....

Has any research been done on this???

I mean can pretty much any sub be mounted inverted?

I was thinking of doing one of my XXXs inverted on my next box...

And as soon as crap dies down at work a bit, I want to start on a console for my ride, I was thinking of doing one of the (2) 6.5"XXXs inverted...

1. Any change in SD isn't going to matter whether it's in a sealed box or ported one.

2. Yeah, there's a little loss due to the blockage of the motor structure, but I doubt it would be audible at all...

I read a few other threads on here about inverting subs, and saw some things about changing the way you have to wire the sub... Can someone elaborate on how I would have to wire my sub if I inverted it? I have a re se12 currently wired in parallel...

You have to wire the phase 180 from anything I have read. So :

Amp+~~~~~~~~ - Speaker

- ~~~~~~~~ +

Come over to the blingy bling side and mount them inverted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You DO NOT have to reverse the polarity when inverting.

The only time you have to reverse the polarity when inverting is if one sub is inverted and a 2nd sub is mounted "normal". In that case yes, you would reverse the polarity of one of the subs (doesn't matter which one).

But when inverting, just like "regular" mounting, you should try the subs with the polarity normal then reversed and see which sounds best. There is not right or wrong, need to or don't need to......it's whatever sounds best.

I have no idea how the misconception arose that you must reverse the polarity when inverting.....but I wish it would stop spreading.....

squeak, its simple really. When someone says 'you must reverse polarity when inverting' they are assuming the polarity was set correctly when the sub was mounted non-inverted. In that situation, when inverting the sub, yes you must reverse polarity. These people making that comment are simply acknowledging the fact that the speaker's physical mounting position has now reversed its relative phase in relation to the other speakers.

I believe the comment that phase needs to be reversed should be said, but also that a short explanation of relative and absolute phase should be included. As well as what you said, subwoofer phasing should be determined on a case by case basis because sometimes having the sub out of phase with the other speakers (relative phase) sometimes works best.

Showed this the other day but got no respose to it. Was my protege 5 with 2 Kove Armagedon 15" u2 subs in a wall enclousere. I inverted them because they give off the kick *** effect lol! Is on page 5.

Got no response to it? Weird, I specifically remember responding to it, said something to the effect that Id liked it. *shrug* Maybe you just didn't go back and look. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
