To expand or to scrap and start over?

Hello ladies and gents,

I have a new RAM 1500 regular cab that I purchased this month with the Pioneer system in it. The lows were nonexistent so I purchased a JL Audio ACP110LG-TW1 (ACP110LG-TW1 - Car Audio - Subwoofer Systems - MicroSub+) based on the reviews on Crutchfield and Sonic Electronix. I must say that it goes loud and deep, but is a far, far cry from the ported 2x12" and 2x15" boxes I used to have in my old Buick in the 90's. I actually miss the old days, my hair blowing and my vision blurring as I drive. It almost felt therapeutic :)

Of course I'm invested now ($500 for the sub/box/amp combo), and as I see it I have two options:

1. Buy another ACP110LG-TW1 and put it behind the other seat, and hope that this makes my setup significantly louder. I could even put a third between the seats, it just exposes it to the world and I'd have to throw something over it when I park somewhere.

2. Scrap my plan A with which I started, sell/trade the ACP110LG-TW1, and look at 2 ported 10's or 12's with a decent amp.

2 x cone area = 3db, 2 x power = 3db, easy enough. I've been out of the car audio game since the 90's, however, so am at a disadvantage with technologies, manufacturer knowledge, etc. We can quantitatively analyze this to death, so maybe I should ask more qualitative questions that will allow members to chime in with experience and intuition:

Question 1: Are custom boxes with component subs and amp, generally speaking, going to be capable of considerably more than the 'pre-canned' stuff I bought?

Question 2: Would I be likely to perceive two or three of these as 'quite significantly' louder than one?

Question 3: What would you in my shoes do if you wanted to really pound?

Budget is not a big issue, but I'm married so of course I have to be somewhat careful how much I spend on 'boy' stuff. Wifey is great and I don't want to test boundaries too much :) I should also mention that I foresaw this and asked the install shop to run 4ga for power, 'just in case', so I'm good there.
