I have been thinking about ordering the study guide, as I would like to have this certificate. I want to take the basic installation technician exam and my question is would it be worth my time/money? How difficult is the test what does it consist of etc etc im just lookin for a little backround info before i decide to go for it

i believe the basic cert. covers almost all aspects of electrical such as switches and equations and stuff. Im sure being certified can get you an installation job, or even the dreaded best buy.
to be an installer at best buy you have to first be a salesperson at bestbuy.....i say hellz no. i was browsing the car audio section at best buy the other day and there was a manager explaining to this guy when to use a 4 channel amp when to use a 2 channel amp and when to use a mono amp. made me laugh because i could throw on a blue shirt and khacki pants and make 12 bucks an hour doin a better job than that retard.

Let me also say this.

Right now car audio is in a slump, people dont have money to blow on audio right now because of the economy. It might pay off when the economy picks up but right now its not worth it IMO.

i plan on leaving michigan after college where the economy is at least a little better.

Not sure where you heard 12 bucks an hour... I applied for a position at my local best buy they said their starting wage for salesman was $7.50 during the interview so I told them I no when they offered it. Ive already got a job so this was gonna be a part-time job really just cuz i wanted employee discounts but not worth it to me for just 7.50... and this was just about 3 weeks ago...

7 50 is correct.. I worked there in computer sales. The discounts you get are pretty **** nice the cables and ****, though they dont have much to offer..

yeah the basic covers almost everything that youll come apon in audio and installing, i took the test and it wasnt to difficult but hasnt paid off for me yet.
