Tips on doing sidework

I do side jobs, but it's not in car audio. . . it's computers. Teachers from my old job call me up yada yada yada. I charge $25 an hour + travel time.

Don't be nice doing side jobs. I hate working on computers so I charge a lot to make up for it. So pretty much, they're stuck with my rates or they can piss off, doesn't matter to me. If they take me, then well, that's good since I'm gonna get paaaiiiiddd :p

random peeps id do it for around half of what best buy would charge.....sometimes ill break i down into like $25 for a HU change, $20 per door for new door speakers, subs and amp installs for $30 if the wiring is done, power/rca wiring like $30. designing and building a box $50 + supplies (so the box will be abotu 100 bucks for them give or take)....ussually if they have the enclosure already it'd be like $100 for a full install going from stock to new almost everything put in......for friends i'll ussually do it for a bag of ganja //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Exactly! That's why I'd charge hourly instead of flat rate.

Were you ripped when you typed that shit? LOL seems like it.

Depends on three factors

1. how well I know the person

2. what else I have to do at the moment

3. If I like you or not

Thing is, if you're going to do the side work, you'll probably want to do it because you love doing the work.

I fix computers on the side and hate it. It's actually my job. So I charge almost what the shop charges.

I love working with mobile electronics, so I charge a LOT less doing that.

I'm married w/ kids and what not so the gonja is out of the question now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif But you guys gave me some useful info. I guess the major factor is that I enjoy the work and that is the main reason why I do it. Thanks for your replies you guys kick @$$//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd say whatever u think it's worth, most people getting side work from u would be friends, or freinds of friends. So depending on what it is I would say look over how hard the job would be than charge accordinly. Than drop the price a little if they throw in free lunch and some beers.

I do both for freinds for pretty much free. Working with computers is so horrible, omg so many little things that can F u over for days. I applied for Best Buy for car audio, had an interview, think their gonna throw me in computers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
