Tinting?

pay the $200-300 bones and get a pro to do it. My time is worth way more than that. Yikes, I spend so much time at friggin' work I just wouldn't want to spend 5-6 hours tinting windows. Not to save a hundred bucks after buying the stuff yourself. Then you know it would be perfect, or they will do it again.

A professional 200-250 dollar tint job is worth every cent.
I'd pay it if I could find a place that is reputable enough here in Miami. I had my corsica tinted with a lifetime warranty and shit and the ****ers messed up almost every window with some kind on blemish and they say "thats normal, you will never get a perfect window" but yet i see other cars with perfect tints. I am dying to find a place that can do a great job so i can get my new civic tinted.

i'll get a pic of my friends civic hatch that i tinted by myself using windex over two years ago...and i'll post pics when im done tinting my intrepid the same way...you guys work it up to be so hard when its not...

also, to clean the window, another trick is to use 0000 steel wool on the glass with a lot of warm soapy water...before you put tint on, you want the window as clean as possible...

you can use the same tint that is used on cars on ur house windows too right?
I did. I have a half circle window in one of my bedrooms over the regular windows and I used 5% tint on it and it works great //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Im just not confident enough with my tinting ability to do my car. curved windows are a hell of alot harder than flat house windows.

Yeah i cant like ever sleep in because the sun comes straight through my room so i was going to do my first tint job on my windows...How much do the materials cost and what materials do i need?

I used a razor and windex to clean the windows perfect. then I used tint solutions and a squeegy to apply the tint. you can by a tinting kit for like $4 at the autoparts store that have the squeegy and a razor for cutting the tint and then autoparts tint is like $12 a roll. can get the tint solution in a big autoparts most of the time.

just remember that on windows with more than one curve, meaning, a curve both verticle and horizontal, you'll need to cut the tint into strips and overlay a little bit in order for it to go on flat. like if you took a piece of tint and put it over a baseball, there'd be several creases, or one big crease...

a flat piece of tint cannot lay flat on two curved axis's. most rear windows in cars are rounded, meaning they curve from top to bottom AND from side to side, like this, you'll end up with many creases on the tint if you try to do it with one sheet. this results in the bubbling and crappy looking job which really stands out for how bad it is. in order to make it go on flat, you have to cut the tint into strips, like 4 or 5, and overlap them at the defroster wires. just to let you know, window tint goes on the inside of the window too...in-case you werent sure. walk down an inner city street and look at crappy tint jobs, and then see how many of the crappy ones were done on the outside of the window.

I seriously doubt you used windex to install tint. Try to take some adhesive off with windex...notice how it works so well? It eats glue...which is exactly what's on tint.

I wont even comment on the 'tinting instructions' provided earlier in this thread.

DO NOT use automotive film on a residential window. There are many factors to consider when tinting a residential/business window..unlike cars. If the window absorbs too much heat, it will shatter. How much sunlight does it get? Is the window ever partially shaded? It goes on and on. I wont even get into residential/commercial...it's a whole new ballgame. Ill stick with cars.

And to the 'professional windexer'...cutting tint into strips? This isnt the early 90's anymore. They make things called heatguns. Nothing says professional like a window done in 6 pieces.
