Time Alignment T/A Delay, etc.

if by using the measurement method to get all speakers to act as if they are all equal distance from the listening point (like the picture shown in Alpine's manuals), why would you end up with a soundstage that looks like the one pictured above??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Is Alpine trying to fool us? Should you not believe everything you read? Should you believe the shit I post? Shit. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Well, by that rationale, we shouldn't believe our ears either because the goal, for most it seems, is to create the illusion of a high, wide and centered sound stage in the vehicle. No such thing as stereo sound in "the real world" as the shape and design of our ears suggests. You'd think that if stereo were natural, then we would have evolved ears on the front of our head to hear that illusion better, right?

You're better off being a horse, who has ears on top of it's head that can pivot. Plus, with "prey eyes" on the side of your head, you'd have the advantage of NOT being able to see your drivers so well and therefore not be so easily fooled by the environment (ie psychoacoustics). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it would difficult to hear someone sneak up behind you then.

i'm guessing the little processor we can the brain sums the signal we receive from both ears to get that effect.

that's probably why setups sound better at night or when it's dark.

psychos are running ramped in these streets.

joo squeerz.

maybe one day , when i have the money , time and a nice enough vehicle. i will venture into the T/A-ness and become a semi-squeer on my way to full blown squeer-dom.

yay.

random tinkering with no structure... interesting. At least you posted. Thanks for that.
Setup for failure...

Well I know which drivers need to be delayed, I just don't use any kind of formula to find out what the exact delay is supposed to be. I just delay my driver's side until I'm happy with it. I've tried every setting possible, going by incriments of .1ms. I don't care if I'm off by a couple of 10ths of what it's "supposed" to be; I have it where it's at because that's what I have found to sound best.

Oh the difference .1ms can do. I'm glad I can adjust by .05ms increments...

And post from my sidekick in LA traffic with my eyes closed.
