Thumping

Okay... my buddies 97 jeep TJ.

When you turn the clarion headunit on (I can't remember the model) it will thump through the subs.

if you are at vol 1 and go to 0 it thumps. You stop the music it thumps.. If you change the track, thump. I think it even thumps when you put a CD in. Is this a grounding problem? (he insists this isint' the problem.. )

They also have a 05 Denali. It has a double din Eclipse dvd player w/ nav. It gets alt feedback through the speakers and I think it will go away if you hit a bump or tap the dash... is this another grounding problem? (again he insists this isn't the problem)?

Thanks guys.

Power wire ran along side of rcas?
I don't think that would cause it.

Loud thumps are discharges of energy. Normally it only happens when you turn on the car and the HU turns on pre-maturely and the charge built up from when the car was off is released.

How is the system hooked up?

He said it does it whenever the volume is changed, whenever the track is changed, etc. My buddy used one of those cheap line input converter boxes for his rca's on a stock head unit along with a bad job of running wires and his sub would thump just like the original poster describes his does. I dunno maybe just a coincidence but might be worth checking into after we get more info from the op.

Its always done it in the jeep.

Its Scoshe wiring. I think its 4 gauge from the battery fused, to the amp at the rear, remote wire off the deck( I never wired the deck up), etc. The headunit is wired into a wiring harness. Thats all I know for now.

I know when we were bootin' it up a steep hill my buddy floored it and the headunit and the mount that it was in slid out of the dash.

some amps have built in anti-thump circuitry I guess his doesnt
It never did it when I had it wired up in the Sunfire I had. but, I was using a diff headunit.. I can't remember the model of his, I think its kinda old, has "brushed aluminum face, but its not silver its black.. best way to describe it..)

See thats what I think it is with both the Denali and the Jeep... but he insists its not //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Its a clarion, has a blue screen red buttons, has a silver volume knob with a rubber grip on it.. uhh it does this funny lil thing (screensaver I think) when you leave it sit playing...
