Thump filter?

My system's equalization is set almost flat... just a tad of loudness and the Pioneer's "Natural" eq curve. Works real well for the rock stuff I usually listen to.

Once in a while I yoink one of my son's CD's just for a change of pace. Today I grabbed one of Emenem's albums. The bass drum in some of the songs makes my speakers click like they're reaching max excursion, with the volume only about 2/3 what I normally use.

I've got 150 Hz bass blockers on the little dash speakers, and the mains are hipassed at 80. I don't understand how the drum thump gets through like that. Maybe it's a transient thing? Does anyone else notice this effect?

I damaged my last set of 3.5's like that, and don't wanna break the Bostons (sweet little buggers they are).

Is there a thump filter?

I had this same problem. Not all songs just a few. I then went back through a couple of the songs. Ran them through a spectrum analyzer program on my PC. Turns out the the low frequencies were boosted just enouogh so that my crossovers slope weren't steep enough to help. The solution I ended up using was building my own crossovers. With 24db octave slopes.

I never have liked bass blockers for just that reason. They are fine with minimal power like from a head unit. But anymore than that and the roll off just isn't steep enough. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
