Thoughts on Focal speakers?

I know the tweeters are made of aluminum and I know I can't take titanium tweeters (ie. Infinity). They're really piercing. I could only find one review on the net for a Focal speaker (6x9) and it was very positive. And woofersetc.com has Focal speakers rated as extremely popular. Any thoughts?

focal are great speakers. they are bright, but they're up there with boston and etc.

if you're interested in focal, you might be interested in hertz as well. hertz is from italy and is owned by audison. i personally own hertz components and i love them.

i've heard both the k2p and 165v2.. and both very harsh in my opinion. coulda had more midbass, but the midrange was very detailed.

I used to own the 165A's and I thought they were pretty good for the price. I agree that they lacked a bit in midbass but I didn't have my doors sealed and I was only feeding them 75 watts. The tweeters never got harsh b/c they were done in the floor and werne't aimed at me. I believe I paid around 240 for my set and I thought they were great.

I've never heard the higher end stuff from focal but I've read pretty decent reviews.

The metal that the tweeter is made out of is only one factor that makes it sound the way it does. So, don't discount all titanium tweeters because you don't like some of them. Personally I like alloy and silk dome tweeters because of their smoothness. I would say check out some Max Fidelity Tweeters and some other mids than going with a Focal set. Shopping for a component set is hard because not many places sell high end ones that are worth what they are charging...

I got to listen to some last year at a local shop. To me, they were amazingly clear and detailed. They are very bight speakers, which is not what I was looking for. I like a smoother sound. If you are looking for a bright speaker, these are fabulous. They, to me, cost too much money , but if you are willing to spend the doe, they are impressive.

I really like them. They are bright (very clear) and mid-bass can be very good. It's in the install. They get progressively warmer if you listen to their different models. 165A1 --> 165V1 --> 165V2 --> 165KP, etc.

They're **** bright. You can probably get around this if you're willing to put in the install work and play with the tweeter mounting. It probably helps if you like bright highs. I like them more than Quart, but I don't like bright speakers at all, so take that with a grain of salt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you're not into the bright tweeter thing, and want something that works well out-of-the-box, as it were, Focal might not be for you. I'd strongly encourage listening before you buy.

I always found Focals to have plenty of punchy midbass for the price.

They're just not very neutral speakers, but I guess you can't accuse them of being dull, either.
