Well the fact that he said jetta GLI or GTI makes him ignorant. There is no such thing as a jetta GTI. The GTI came in the golf body style only. But everyone is intitled to their own opinions. just get a gti. i think they are the better lookin mk4 over the jettas. and they can take a lot of mods.

or a 4 door Golf 1.8t.. won't be quite as fast, but you can probobly find them a wee bit cheaper

1.8t 4 door golfs are hard to find iirc and probably be more money, a 2 door would be lighter and some what quicker.

i dont know what the gli is(to lazy to look) but my bros gf has an 06 jetta sedan and its a sick car very fast and comfortable. Pulls a burnout nicely also.

if a got a gli and put a revo chip in it a downpipe (maybe) and a cold air intake, it would boost it to about 230 hp, i figure it would be pretty quick after all that

I would take a look at the MazdaSpeed3 as well... It's 265 horepower with 280 lbs of torque for 23k ish... The styling is very similar to the VW that you're looking at but will probably provide you will more bang for your buck.
