If putting the amount of money into car audio you want to will significantly alter your long term investment plans with a house, then she has a point. But I figured we were talking about somewhere between a few hundred and a couple thousand dollar stereo, versus a $100k+ house with presumably tens of thousands in investment needed over a several year stretch. And, if you cant afford a $200 comp set, she cant afford a $200 pair of jeans. If she wants to be objective, speakers last a lot longer than jeans do.But the problem is her vaild point.. Every mile, every day, every modification you do to a car it is worth less.. There is no debating that point?
Putting money into the house will have a large return on investment.
The other point is if my car gets totaled or somebody jacks my stuff, its gone.
You can re-use your stereo equipment, or at least a lot of it, if/when you replace your vehicle. So the argument of wear and tear on the vehicle making it worth less every day has very little relevance to adding a stereo.
But, you dont buy audio equipment to increase the vehicle's value, if you are discussing that point with her on that level, you have already lost the argument. How do some guys justify spending thousands on a set of Pings, ski equipment, a hunting rifle, or even a boat? You dont justify those things on an objective level. Its a hobby, the value is your enjoyment.
And, if all else fails, use the old line "hey, at least Im not out at the bar spending the money".
