This may be strange, but 4 IDQ10s vs. 2 RL-p 12s???

All of these discussions really kind of make me mad, lol. I just dropped 405 bucks on a 12XXX. Now mind you, I HAVE NOT EVEN HEARD MY SETUP YET, but from the look of things, a pair of 12RL-P's or 4 ID's would probably be better than my single XXX setup, right?

But, I'm sure you'll still be more than happy with your XXX. 'Tis still a great sub.

yeah just port the XXX 12" if you like a little SPL. I personally think it sounds wonderful sealed, but the SPL isn't there for people who like bass. I just like my subs to blend with my music with a litttle extra low end than normal so a 12" XXX sealed with around 600w is perfect for me. But if you like SPL port it and run about 1600w off of a REALLY good amp, like US AMPS, Orion xtr1400.2, PPI A1200 etc.

IMO that's always been an issue when buying a 'super sub', they are expensive. Even before the SS subs, you could buy 3 almost 4 Shiva's for the price of a XXX or Brahma, for example. Clearly the Shiva's would have more output for the same price. If you look at the big bad subs in strictly a perspective of price, they dont hold up well to running multiple smaller/cheaper subs.

But there are advantages also: less enclosure volume, higher tech in the super sub (such as xbl^2, more excursion, etc). Chosing the right driver for you can get very complicated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yea...I was origonally going to go with 1 super sub (XXX or IDMAX), but the whole surface area thing turned me off, so that is why I am on to the 4 IDQs.

I have a quick question though I know that porting adds 3db correct??? Even if I have 4 subs would ported still only be 3db higher. I could do the 4 IDQs sealed in about 1/3 of the space ported would require. I think it will still get pretty loud sealed.

What does everyone think???

normally i've gotten ALOT more than 3db by porting, you just have to design the the right enclosure for your subs. 4 IDQ's SEALED are loud as hell so 4 ported are gonna be REALLY loud don't worry lol. Tune them around 28hz. THey can use the extra umph in the low 30's. I tried using the recommended 32hz on mine then remade another box at around 26hz and DAYUM they sounded so much better.

Ported adds an average of 3db over sealed. And yes, regardless of the number of subs, the increase over sealed would still be ~3db. Though, keep in mind that that's an average over the entire bandwidth.....certain frequencies could be 6-9db over sealed depending on the design.
