A couple others aren't even ES, they're just old school XM and they crush many other comparable amplifiers in both power and resolution.

Assassyn, sorry I offended your fragile sensibilities. I wasn't trying to start any shit, I was simply pointing out the fact that you had made a decision about how you felt about Sony amps without actually trying them so your opinion should not be given much weight. I wasn't saying that Sony makes the best gear out there. It's also worth mentioning that I don't give a shit about SPL so power is not the point I'm conveying when I say Sony can make great equipment. If you want power, you should stick to what you like as far as dollar per watt value.

I was walking through a pawn shop a couple weeks ago and snatched this up for 30.00 even! It's from back when sony was not slang for crap, it has a double stacked magnet woven leads flat wound VC and a one piece cone/vc former and a nice thick cast basket and for as old as it is it sounds great and is louder than myT110D2 was in the same enclosure with less power! But it does not hit the lows nearly as hard I would guess that is due to being more of a sq sub rather then sql or spl.

You're wrong about the time period though, that's right around the time Sony went full steam with the whole crappy red Xplod theme which is why most people think it's crap.

Yep, that's one of them. The best examples from that line were the XM-5520 and the XM-5540. I sold some not long ago.

I like there subs, I have 6 xplods in my back seat. i like there Hu's i have had them never a problem, I have at least 6 sony 6x9"s and 6.5 . I like most of there stuff . but the amps they are currently making, I think are junk

Just because I have never owned any sony amps dont mean I heavent heard them before. Half the people in this town have SONY amps , You dont have to OWN somthing to know what it is about.

Don't hold me to it, but I think they ran from 2000 to 2003.

I misspoke about the cone material earlier. Although the component sets for that line were magnesium, the subwoofers were aluminum cones. Sorry about that.

You should try something like this. Very few heads will beat this combination, no matter what time period. It would certainly help to change your perception but it would require an open mind as well as a proper setup.
