This black on white crime is getting out of hand.

Thats a totally different situation guy just like in Europe whites enslaved whites, but thats not a RACE issue, they are slaves do to the social class they were born in. So it isn't RACISM which is what we are referring to so don't go throwing stuff out there that's irrelevant to this situation.
Why do prejudices based on social class not carry as much weight on the "Oppression - o - meter" than prejudices based on race or gender?

Wow... My point was that blacks seem to feel entitled to special treatment, i.e. special holidays, support groups, financial aid, etc, BECAUSE of what they went through a hundred years ago, or more, as slaves. How much more of a direct correlation do you need? I'm not trying to start an argument, or add fuel to a fire that needs to be put out, but seriously man... if you can't grasp what I'm spelling out in fairly plain English, please don't bother replying.
FYI--check your calendar for Holidays, historical events and so forth. Support groups are every where and not for racial interest only. I'm sure there is a support group for people in the 80's who have lost a Cabbage Patch doll to an untimely salad mishap. Everyone tends to benefit from financial aid, pull up public records and track what racial group receives the majority(you'll be shocked). In all honesty whites are truly not the majority any longer, it is the hispanic population(not purely hispanic but hispanic, white/hispanic etc). You might want to refrain from throwing out generalizations without support--Creative writing instructors refer to those works as "fictional"(creative/fiction).

Wtf special holidays? And what the **** does financial aid have to do with slavery? African American college funds are there because the majority of black kids can't afford college because they are born in poverty, and most of those special funds are supported by the rich African Americans. If there are any SPECIAL financial aid out there it's mainly based out of restitution for not being allowed to even attend those schools. Which is why there are black colleges out there.
Black colleges give easy scholarships to white kids. I know TSU does.

I often lol'd when students would tell me I am only there because I'm white.

Comment not directed at you...just wanted the post to seem relevant.

Actually, I've read the entire posts in this thread. The initial responses were far short of being a "good discussion" unless it was a recruitment for a racial cause.
Slavery in any shape or form is wrong--hence why some men remain bachelors for a lifetime(it's a joke, laugh). Slavery exists today throughout the world disguised as "cheap labor". We(as a nation) need to remain educated on patterns of racism and intolerance, so that we don't allow history to repeat itself. Around the country there are "whites" teaching African American history courses and some are more knowledgeable than the students of color in their classrooms. Your skin color won't restrict or inhibit you from learning about another race, but your racism can be the culprit. As a forum there will always be agreements and disagreements in regards to car audio(wiring, install, box builds et. al.) but we should all agree that racism is a cancer and has only a negative affect.

I wasn't only focusing on your post, although it was quoted, but many other negative posts in your thread.

My apologies if I have read your posts in a negative light if they were meant to be a positive for a nation moving forward together.

FYI to all--people are not uptight, they are just shocked how some can take subjects so lightly--it's just not the internet.
Not my thread //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I was also directing my comment about the good discussion toward jadon... sorry for the confusion. I agree it (racism) is a cancer. I've contributed to this thread (although I normally steer clear of these) with mostly a sarcastic tone, because I think threads like this are ridiculous, fruitless, and usually do more harm than good. Sorry for stirring the pot. I'm out.

Didn't say they did just said that it was irrelevant to his comments about African american history. He used social class slavery to try and justify his complaining about us having a black history month and etc, but can one form of slavery justify another?

White americans in power are so scared of being called racist they would rather make it hard for a white man than make it equal. About ten different scholorships just for being black and I cant get enough loans to pay for my school.

Yeah which is what said earlier about if there was any kind of special financial aid because of race, it might be because once that race of person wasn't allowed to attend the school and could be restitution for it.

umm so wtf does that have to do with people of the year 2008? thats like saying that the british should give the whole USA money for making our country slaves during the revolutionary war with corrupt taxation. logic is stupid. and im done with this thread.

1. Unless your referring to outside scholarships non-related to school then thats a little over exaggeration.

2. You still have to earn the majority of those scholarships regarless of being black.

3. Stop gettting loans and up your grades and get more scholarship money, not throwing insults at you just saying.

It doesn't really. I like the "leave it in the past" approach. However, the requires me to deny the history of a whole race of people for the benefit of reducing racial tensions. I am not sure what the appropriate perspective is....no answer is really "good" in that it is simultaneously sympathetic and practical.

I think TSU offers the scholarship to white students with much lower qualifications as a recruiting tactic. At MTSU, the criteria for black student scholarships is lower than whites.

Proportionally, the qualifications for a white student at TSU is lower than a black student at MTSU.

The people here were colonists, not slaves. The people here were technically still British until after the Treaty of Paris.

I do admit, at many public institutions the qualifications for school funded scholarships for black students are lower than the qualifications for white students. With that being said, I am willing to bet it would have been harder to find a job as a black student versus a white student. Given the choice, I would rather be a white student with a job paying off loans than a black student who went to school for free who cannot find an equivalent job. I think whites still have it better....

So what do you consider preferential treatment? Because if having a month out of the year to promote and educate the history of African Americans is preferential treatment then you just contradicted yourself with your whole paragraph, because that is how we educate ourselves on the whole situation. I'm fairly sure if there were no black history month the majority of people, blacks and white, wouldn't even know think about it. And if thats not what you consider preferential treatment what is, because i don't recall myself or anyone else referring to recieving it.
No contradiction made at any point during my response. Blacks, whites, native americans, latinos etc, shouldn't need a month to educate everyone about their particular racial group. Education of kids about their heritage should be through out the year. Parents should instill a sense of pride and understanding in their children from toddler years until they walk across a graduation stage.

Black History month was created by some individuals with well meaning intentions--in hindsight quite a few of them have stated publicly how they didn't comprehend it would be creating division. I think all ethnic groups should be celebrated for their contributions. I advocate we don't focus just on black history, I advocate that we focus on past, present and future. All races should focus on past, present and future. Let's all remember how far we have come, where we are at today and where we all would like to be at 20 years from now.

A lot of programs were put in place to create diversity in colleges, so that minorities could have an equal shot at education. Although, changes have been made it is proven that whites have received better public education(mostly based on more money been afforded to schools based on property taxes). To level the playing field colleges made exceptions acknowledging that a level playing field was needed. This in itself was a good move, it wasn't preferential treatment, it was a proven acknowledgement of disparity between the two races.

When discussing race, it's easy to become emotional and irate. This is why I prefer to put it all in a factual content.

I'm all for "everyone to be on an equal playing field" but that is in an ideal situation. We can't all pretend to be Ralph W. Emerson or Henry D. Thoreau and look for a perfect soceity--it won't happen as long as we all have chips on our shoulders.

Whoa whoa whoa, thats slavery?

slavery is a social-economic system under which certain persons — known as slaves — are deprived of personal freedom and compelled to perform labour or services.
