thinking of upgrading from 12 inch rockford p3s to sundown sa12s, have some questions

thanks for the input guys. if i decide to go this route they will be run off of one of the t1000s until electrical is upgraded more than the other one will come in to play. like i said this is is an 03 svt focus hatch subs up port up is the way i go because it seems to sound better and hit harder that way. not going for comps but it'd be nice to enter one just for fun to see what i'm doing. anyone think mid 40s is possibly with the two sa 12 two t1000 setup in proper box and proper electrical? tuned at 32 or 33 hertz. i'd like to be able to hit those numbers with low tuning. this is a daily build and all but it'd be cool to hit decent numbers in the process. i wanna pound and hit low and hard...thanks agian!

There is no magic box designed for the SA's that is going to make them SOO much better than what you have now. The box you have is within spec for the SA's so while they will sound different in different boxes and different than the P3's do, you don't need to build a whole new box for the sundowns. That being said, the sundowns can take more power than the p3's, but on the same power dont' expect a huge change, though you may see gains.

another option would be go with rockford t1 12s...the recommendations for those are nearly identical to the p3. 1.75 cubes for the t1 1.79 for the p3...4 inch wide port on both, same 11.25 inch cutout 10 inches of port length for the p3 9 inches for the t1 and both have exactly the same subwoofer displacement (.106 cubic feet). so the t1 is a VERY close match...nearly identical in every way. price isn't an issue i can get both around the same price new. ideas? if I got the t1 the same plan would be in place...one t1000 for now for break in and until i get proper electrical then add another t1000 to have on each sub. i also like rockford i wouldn't mind keeping this an all rockford power series build...unless the sundown is FAR better than the "crap" rockford (that's what i keep hearing around here lol) thanks

thanks for this answer this has made more sense to me than any i've received so far. I realize the box is a very important part of the puzzle but with that being said...if it's within spec is it gonna hurt the sound THAT much? i wouldn't think so but then again that is why I'm asking this question. I would expect since sundowns are soooo much better than rockford (at least that's what I read on here) then it should be no contest which is better even in the same box. I realize it's not going to get a whole lot louder in the same box on the same power but it should be noticable that there is a better subwoofer beating back there. the real gains are gonna come when i double the power. I'm not really chasing numbers i just wanna get loud and sound **** good doing it...i like the sound i have now...so if sundowns get louder and sound better doing it I'm all in

Sundowns should be a better sub. Longterm they can take more power, more abuse overall and they are a good sounding driver. It'll be a good switch in the long run and I wouldnt' be suprised if you like SA's a good bit better on the same power, just don't expect a super major change.

Yea I thought breifly about going with rockford t1s to keep an all rockford build going but I've decided to go with the sa12s again...I think they're better overall and id be happier in the longrun....and although I can get a fairly good deal on the t1s I can still get a pair of sa12s for about 60 bucks less...I don't expect a super major change...but if its enough louder to where I can actually tell its louder and it sounds noticably better (which it should) ill be more than happy....and once I get my alternator and second battery and add mmy other t1000 into the mix those sa12s should really get down and sound good doing it.

I know the bl is high on those sa12s and the xmax is 19mm which is bout 4mm more than my p3s....that being said they should move a noticable amount more air correct? I just wanna do small hair tricks and good paper tricks and stuff...my p3s will move paper at the side windows a little bit but I wanna get a little more air oving through this thing lol. I hear sas move some air...this true?
